Aim. The presented study aims to analyze changes in the economic and political systems of the United States associated with the transformation of approaches to supply chain regulation.Tasks. The authors identify the specific aspects of regulating social, economic, political, and other processes in the United States through presidential executive directives; assess the extent to which issues related to supply chain management are reflected in executive directives; analyze the specific features of supply chain management regulation in the United States in the BidenHarris administration.Methods. This study uses general scientific research methods (analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization, etc.) as well as special methods such as content analysis, economic and political analysis, and scenario modeling.Results. The study makes it evident that in the United States great attention is paid to supply chain management issues at the national level, and this is reflected in presidential executive directives. Activity in this area has increased significantly in the Biden-Harris administration. All key ministries are becoming involved in supply chain management, with an emphasis on ensuring national and economic security and maintaining the political, military, and economic leadership of the United States in the world.Conclusions. The economy and politics of the United States continue to play an important role in the development of mankind. Investigation of the emerging specific trends in these areas helps to adequately respond to future changes. The executive directives of the US President serve as a meaningful source of information about such trends. Their analysis shows that the Biden-Harris administration seeks to highlight the improvement of supply chain management in the United States as one of the strategic directions of the implemented policy.

PurposeThis paper explores how public buyers' capabilities promote collaboration with private suppliers to obtain enhanced performance in complex projects.Design/methodology/approachThe authors conducted two case studies on the procurement of complex military projects by the Brazilian armed forces involving public buyers and private suppliers. The authors followed the Gioia methodology to inductively analyze data from interviews, official documents, media articles and project meeting notes.FindingsThe authors identified public procurement capabilities that are antecedents of collaborative trust-based relationships with suppliers in complex public-private projects. The authors unpack these capabilities in three subsets: abilities to manage the bidding and contracting process, to handle relationships with prominent stakeholders, such as audit control bodies and to manage knowledge acquired within and across current and past projects. By developing these capabilities, public buyers can build collaborative trust-based relationships with suppliers, which enable the conciliation of operational performance (i.e. on-time delivery, budget and scope compliance) and policy goals (i.e. inclusion of local suppliers in supply chains).Originality/valueThe authors extend the literature on the enablers of trust and collaboration in buyer-supplier relationships by providing a detailed account of which capabilities are necessary on the buyer side in complex projects, especially when accountability standards create barriers for collaborative practices. The authors also reinforce the importance of the operations and supply chain management scholarship in policy debates by showing how buyer-supplier interactions can create value in complex projects with public and private sectors.

Nigeria has abundant deposit and supply of accessible crude oil and gas resources and it remains the mainstay of her economy. The oil and gas industry in Nigeria is a part of the global oil and gas market which depends on effective and efficient supply-chain management system for the seamless procurement of goods and services (domestic and international), logistics, operations and production management, warehousing, storage of goods from organisations supplier’s suppliers to the customer’s customers with the help of adequate use of modern information and communication technology. The purpose of this study was to examine supply chain management: a game changer in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria. The paper is largely a literature review, hence a desk research methodology was adopted. The paper revealed that the industry offers a classic model for changing the competition game in the sector through a lean, innovative and environmentally sustainable integrated supply chain management system, as today’s competition is no longer between organizations, but among supply chains that compete to reduce their cost of acquisition, production, logistics and warehousing along the chain while delivering customers products and services of quality at the right time, quantity and quality, at the right place and total cost, and creating value throughout the chain.

The development of information technology has increased the use of E-Commerce at both upstream and downstream processes of supply chain management. One type of E-Commerce that was widely used by businesses and MSMEs is the E-Marketplace. E-marketplaces help to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of supply chain management activities, especially in the process of delivering goods or services to consumers. This study aims to see the relationship between the advantages of E-Commerce on the performance of supply chain management, with the role of E-Marketplace as an intermediary. This research examined the MSME sector in DIY Province, with a sample of 160 units has been taken. Based on the path analysis technique by using SPSS software, it was found that there was a positive and significant direct influence between the advantages of E-commerce on the supply chain management performance with the direct effect value of 0.189. Furthermore, there was also the role of using E-Marketplace as a mediating variable on the indirect effect of E-commerce advantages on supply chain management performance with the indirect value of 0.195. Perkembangan teknologi informasi telah meningkatkan penggunaan E-Commerce dalam rantai pasokan di hulu maupun di hilir proses. Salah satu jenis E-Commerce yang banyak digunakan oleh pelaku bisnis dan UMKM adalah E-Marketplace. E-marketplace mampu meningkatkan efisiensi dan efektivitas aktivitas manajemen rantai pasokan khususnya dalam proses penyampaian barang atau jasa ke konsumen. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat hubungan antara keunggulan yang terdapat pada E-Commerce terhadap kinerja manajemen rantai pasokan, dengan penggunaan E-Marketplace perantara. Penelitian ini meneliti sektor UMKM di Provinsi DIY, dengan sampel yang diambil sebanyak 160 unit UMKM. Berdasarkan Teknik analisis jalur (Path Analysis) didapatkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh secara langsung yang positif dan signifikan antara keunggulan e-commerce terhadap kinerja manajemen rantai pasokan dengan nilai direct effect sebesar 0.189. Serta terdapat pula peran penggunaan E-Marketplace sebagai variabel mediasi pada pengaruh tidak langsung antara keunggulan e-commerce terhadap kinerja manajemen rantai pasokan dengan nilai indirect effect sebesar 0.195.

The recent global outbreak of COVID-19 has created a huge global crisis, breaking down many global supply chains. Decision makers in the supply chain are faced with very challenging situation as the application of supply chain resilience mechanisms are questionable and unreliable during the post pandemic. Hence, leaving them to continue learning new ways to cope, adapt and mitigate the risk to navigate through the uncertainties. This imply that knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies of decision makers have become the centre stage for organizations' survival and sustainability.The purpose of this paper is to identify the key factors that influence decision making competency in the supply chain of the Malaysian manufacturing firms. This is a conceptual paper focusing on developing a theoretical framework through the integration of the behavioural decisional theory and competency model. The theoretical framework with respect to the construct of decision making competency are elaborated. This paper hopes to provide a valuable pragmatic framework and roadmap for managerial decision-making in the context of supply chain. By understanding the supply chain decision-making in operations, this can help to contribute to de-risking of supply chain beyond the usual risk response into the proactive reduction of risks for future supply chain sustainability.

Blockchain has become an irresistible disruptive technology with the potential to innovate businesses. Ignoring it may in itself result in a competitive disadvantage for organisations. Except for its original financial application of cryptocurrency, more applications are being proposed, the most common being supply chain management and e-voting systems. However, less focus is made on information and cybersecurity applications of blockchain, especially from the enterprise perspective. This paper addresses this knowledge gap by exploring blockchain as a use case for identity management in the context of an organisation. The paper gives a comprehensive background aiming at understanding the topic, including understanding whether claims made around it, especially blockchain’s potential to address identity management challenges, are based on facts or just a result of hype. Meta-synthesis was used as a research methodology to summarise the 69 papers selected qualitatively from reputed academic sources. The general trend shows theoretical evidence supporting some of the claims made but not necessarily friendly to the enterprise context. The study reveals a promising but immature state of blockchain, consequently questioning whether adopting blockchain-based distributed identity management in organisations is fully practical. A research model called TOE-BDIDM is proposed to guide further investigation.

In the past ten years, sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) attach great importance due to consumers, for-profit and profitless organizations, laws and regulations to the social and corporate responsibilities of consumers, so it has been recognized by practitioners and scholars. Supplier selection, environmental effect like a lockdown, and social cooperation and other SSCM programs can play an important part in realizing the triple bottom line (TBL) of economic, environmental, social assistances. In supply chain management (SCM), the sustainable supplier selection (SSS) and firm performance plays an important role. Traditionally, when evaluating SSS performance, organizations will consider a new framework to obtain the overall criteria/sub-criteria of the sustainability index by encapsulating sustainability. In this paper 12 sub-criteria for 3 pillars of sustainability as economic, environment and social performance is collected. Although there are many articles on SSS and evaluation, so far, research on sustainability issues is very limited. This study endeavours to propose a fuzzy multi-criteria approach to discuss SSCM planning, and studies the issue of determining a current model for SSS in the supply chain during COVID-19 based on the TBL method. For express the linguistic value of the subjective preference of experts we use triangular fuzzy numbers. By using fuzzy numbers to find standard weights for qualitative performance evaluation, then fuzzy TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) is proposed to find the ranking of SSS. However, COVID-19 has a negative role in SSS and in firm performance. The situation of lockdown due to COVID-19 has a negative effect on the performance of the organizations. An example is given of the proposed method.
