Don Stull is professor emeritus of anthropology at the University of Kansas, where he taught from 1975 to 2015. He has been editor-in-chief of Human Organization, president of the Society for Applied Anthropology, and a recipient of the SfAA’s Sol Tax Distinguished Service Award. In 2001 he was presented with the key to Garden City, Kansas, and made an honorary citizen in recognition of the value of his work to this community.

The University of South Florida MA Program in Anthropology will change some of its requirements, beginning in the fall of 1983. The primacy emphasis of the program will continue to be the training of practicing anthropologists. During its nine years of existence, USF's Graduate Program in Anthropology has attracted considerable interest nationwide. It was the first exclusively applied program to focus explicitly on masters' level training in applied anthropology as preparation for other than academic careers. Various aspects of the program have recently been discussed in Practicing Anthropology, vol. 4, no. 3-4). Also, the program and especially its internship component were recently addressed in a review of Internship Training in Applied Anthropology: A Five Year Review (A. Wolfe, E. Chambers and J. Smith) by John van Willigen in Human Organization (vol. 41:3).

In 2018, the University of Kansas (KU) Libraries upgraded from a tired, twenty-year-old basement space to a new, purpose-built conservation lab for library and archives collections. The new conservation lab, which is housed in the special collections and archives library, quadrupled available lab space for its conservators and fleet of student employees. The move afforded Conservation space in the same library as the most vulnerable collection materials. In addition, rooms in the special collections and archives library were repurposed for audiovisual (AV) preservation, creating two new spaces for film and video workflows and upgrading an existing small audio room. This paper will discuss the conservation and preservation lab construction literature and will serve as a practical exemplar of the challenges and successes of the planning process, including lessons learned and unexpected benefits.

Sources documents the work of applied and practicing anthropologists. The Project Profiles published here are based on materials submitted to the Applied Anthropology Documentation Project at the University of Kentucky. The project, since its inception in 1978, has attempted to collect the so-called fugitive literature produced by anthropologists during their problem-solving work. The collection has a wide range of different types of materials: technical reports, research monographs, conference papers, practicum and internship reports, legal briefs, proposals, and other materials.

John Wills Lloyd is Professor Emeritus at the University of Virginia and co-editor of Exceptional Children. He earned his PhD from the University of Oregon and spent most of his career at the University of Virginia. Dr. Lloyd has been an integral part of many professional organizations, including the Council for Exceptional Children’s Division for Learning Disabilities, where he served as president and later as the executive director, and the Division for Research. Dr. Lloyd’s work has focused on the identification of effective instructional practices, best-practice in single-case design research methodology, and facilitating a deeper understanding of learning disabilities. He has produced numerous scholarly articles, foundational textbooks, and web-based materials that continue to inform readers about effective practice in special education.
