The problem of retrieval for spherical particle size distribution in the independent mode is studied, and an improved Tikhonov iteration method is proposed. In this method, the particle size distribution is retrieved from the light extinction data through the Phillips-Twomey method firstly in the independent mode, and then the obtained inversion results of the particle size distribution is used as the initial distribution and the final retrieved particle size distribution is obtained. Simulation experiments indicate that the spherical particle size distributions obtained with the proposed method coincide fairly well with the given distributions.

This work is aimed at confirming the adequacy of the probabilistic and statistical approach to determining the aerodynamic resistance coefficient of particles in a flow of the free falling polyfractional material, suggested by the author. The aerodynamic resistance coefficient of particles in a flow of falling material is defined by calculating the probability of finding particles out of air shadows of the neighboring particles. The laboratory experiment was performed on the offered experimental samples of bulk materials having different particle size distribution, but the identical average diameter of particles. The design of a laboratory experimental installation which allows determining the consumption of air, ejected by a polyfractional material flow, was described. The amount of the air, ejected with experimental samples, depends on their particle size distribution that confirms the insufficiency of describing the properties of bulk material only with the average diameter value. The given comparison of results of the analytical calculations with experimental data shows the reliability and adequacy of the calculated values.

Particulate flow is commonly encountered in industries as well as in many other chemical and mechanical engineering applications. The accurate measurement of particle size distribution is of the utmost importance since it decides the physical and chemical characteristic of the particles. The light extinction method can be used for in-line monitoring of particle systems thus providing real time measurements of both particle size distribution and particle concentration. In light extinction particle sizing, a classification inversion algorithm is proposed for the circular cylinder particles. The measured circular cylinder particle system is inversed with different particle distribution functions and classified according to the inversion errors in the dependent model. The simulation experiments illustrate that it is feasible to use the inversion errors of object functions to inverse the circular cylinder particle size distribution in the light extinction particle sizing technique. This classing inversion algorithm can avoid the defects that the type of the size distribution must be assumed beforehand for the light extinction method.

The method of preparation of Cu-Ni-Al prealloyed powders were studied in this paper. Cu, Ni, Al were smelted at 1500°C and N2 was chosen as atomizing media to produce the Cu-Ni-Al prealloyed powders. The morphology and particle size distribution of Cu-Ni-Al prealloyed powders were analysis with Scanning electron microscopy; the phase composition of Cu-Ni-Al prealloyed powders were analysis XRD. The results show that the morphology of Cu-Ni-Al prealloyed powders are almost nearly spherical, particle size distribution is very uniform and the average particle size is 39μm. The powders are composed of Cu and AlNi phase.
