The paper analyzes the vertical displacements of the GNSS sites of civil engineering structures caused by non-tidal atmospheric loading (NTAL). The object of the study is the Dnister Hydroelectric Power Plant №1 (HPP-1) and its GNSS monitoring network. The initial data are the RINEX-files of 14 GNSS stations of the Dnister HPP-1 and 8 permanent GNSS stations within a radius of 100 km, the NTAL model downloaded from the repository of German Research Centre for Geosciences GFZ for 2019-2021, and materials on the geological structure of the object. Methods include comparison and analysis of the altitude component of GNSS time series with model values of NTAL as well as interpretation of the geodynamic vertical displacements, taking into account the analysis of the geological structure. As a result, it was found that the sites of the GNSS network of the Dnister HPP-1 undergo less vertical displacements than the permanent GNSS stations within a radius of 100 km. This corresponds to the difference in thickness and density of the rocks under the GNSS sites and stations, so they undergo different elastic deformations by the same NTAL. In addition, the research detected different dynamics of vertical displacements of GNSS sites on the dam and on the river banks. It leads to cracks and deformations of concrete structures in the dam-bank contact zones. During the anomalous impact of NTAL, the altitude of even nearby sites can change if the geological structure beneath them is different. The work shows that for civil engineering structures it is necessary to apply special models to take into account NTAL deformations for high-precision engineering and geodetic measurements.

During the construction of Civil Engineering structures in rock masses, different and specificproblems may occur. Engineering Geological research has a significant role in their solving. Withthis kind of research relevant data can be obtained with purpose to get detailed insight in engineering- geological rock mass characteristics and its geological structure. Absence or insufficient scope andquality of the mentioned research may result in occurrence of the problems during design andperformance of Civil Engineering structures, which in this work has been shown on the example ofroad construction in the cut in the rock mass.

abstract An earthquake of MS = 6.3 occurred on 20 January 1982 near the east coast of Great Nicobar Island (in the Bay of Bengal), India and caused great panic among the inhabitants. Ground Fissures and damage to civil engineering structures was also caused. A study comprised of the recording of aftershocks and their migration, the preparation of an isoseismal map, and the compilation of other damage data is presented. Some recommendations have been made to permit suitable safeguards in future development.

The aim of this paper is to apply both time- and frequency-domain-based approaches on real-life civil engineering structures and to assess their capability for damage detection. The methodology is based on Principal Component Analysis of the Hankel matrix built from output-only measurements and of Frequency Response Functions. Damage detection is performed using the concept of subspace angles between a current (possibly damaged state) and a reference (undamaged) state. The first structure is the Champangshiehl Bridge located in Luxembourg. Several damage levels were intentionally created by cutting a growing number of prestressed tendons and vibration data were acquired by the University of Luxembourg for each damaged state. The second example consists in reinforced and prestressed concrete panels. Successive damages were introduced in the panels by loading heavy weights and by cutting steel wires. The illustrations show different consequences in damage identification by the considered techniques.

This paper first describes the importance of structural damage identification and diagnosis in civil engineering, and introduces domestic and foreign status of damage identification and diagnosis methods, and on the basis of this, it also introduces all kinds of methods for damage identification and diagnosis of civil engineering structures, and finally puts forward the development direction of civil engineering structure damage identification and diagnosis.
