In the welding processes of large dimension subassemblies, an advanced mechanism is necessary in order the welding stitch not be interrupted during the change of the operator’s position. A tracking model has been designed and tested, for a simple welding path using a mini robot, which can be controlled via mobile phone.

Large-dimension welded joints are widely used in shipyards and oilfields. These joints typically have thick and nonuniform welding grooves, thus requiring multi-pass welding processes and tens of hours to complete. Although the development of robotic welding systems can shorten the welding time, it is important to have a detailed plan of the entire process before welding starts. Welding pass planning is crucial for the subsequent robot trajectory generation and provides the welding sequence in a deep groove and the welding parameters of every pass. A knowledge database is used in this research to obtain the relationship between the bead geometry and the welding parameters. A layer-by-layer welding pass planning scheme is proposed to address the nonuniform groove geometry, and an optimization method is proposed with the objective to maximize the section area of the weld bead, so that the number of passes can be minimized. The planning results show that the optimization method is able to provide feasible passes and welding parameters for every pass.

Experimental work on the spot welding of Maraging Steels revealed a surprisingly low level of strength - both in the as welded and in aged conditions. This appeared unusual since in the welding of these materials by other welding processes (TIG,MIG) the strength level is almost that of the base material. The maraging steel C250 investigated had the composition: 18wt%Ni, 8wt%Co, 5wt%Mo and additions of Al and Ti. It has a nominal tensile strength of 250 KSI. The heat treated structure of maraging steel is lath martensite the final high strength is reached by aging treatment at 485°C for 3-4 hours. During the aging process precipitation takes place of Ni3Mo and Ni3Ti and an ordered solid solution containing Co is formed.Three types of spot welding cycles were investigated: multi-pulse current cycle, bi-pulse cycle and single pulsle cycle. TIG welded samples were also tested for comparison.The microstructure investigations were carried out by SEM and EDS as well as by fractography. For multicycle spot welded maraging C250 (without aging), the dendrites start from the fusion line towards the nugget centre with an epitaxial growth region of various widths, as seen in Figure 1.

In the present study we link self-report-data on personality to behavior recorded on the mobile phone. This new approach from Psychoinformatics collects data from humans in everyday life. It demonstrates the fruitful collaboration between psychology and computer science, combining Big Data with psychological variables. Given the large number of variables, which can be tracked on a smartphone, the present study focuses on the traditional features of mobile phones – namely incoming and outgoing calls and SMS. We observed N = 49 participants with respect to the telephone/SMS usage via our custom developed mobile phone app for 5 weeks. Extraversion was positively associated with nearly all related telephone call variables. In particular, Extraverts directly reach out to their social network via voice calls.
