Stress has been experienced since ancient times, but it has never been worse than it is here in the early 21st century. Nowadays stress is responsible for more than fifty percent of all illness.  Despite this fact, the phenomenon of stress still hasn’t been that deeply studied.  Contemporary society has to deal with the relatively new concept of workplace stressmore and more often. In order to answer the questions as to Why and What to do the problem of stress should be looked at in depth at individual workplaces.Only after this is done an appropriate and specific stress management programme can be created.  he purpose of this present study is to determine the main reasons for and consequences of stress at work, and to find the most effective ways of preventing it and coping with it. The research also analyzes the overall current situation of stress at work and takes a look at some historical facts related to the origins of stress.   People from different age groups, working spheres and cultures were invited for the interview during the year 2009, in order to get more information and practical examples from real life situations.  Since there wasn’t really any specific research found on this topic, my study will be potentially quite useful to companies, especially in the success of their overall development.

AbstractThis paper studied the work stressors and coping strategies of lawyers in Singapore. Data collection involved the use of both quantitative and qualitative research methods — a survey of 450 lawyers and in-depth interviews with 27 lawyers. This study found that while time pressure and work overload were the most stressful aspects of lawyering work, social interactions and interpersonal relationships at work proved to be a salient work stressor, when lawyers were dealing with clients, fellow lawyers and judges — that is, interpersonal stress. This study explains how lawyers constantly monitor and adjust their actions to negotiate for control or 'power' over others in their attempts to cope with work stress. In examining the correlation between lawyers' perceptions of work stress and their coping behaviours, this paper reveals that while lawyers tended to report more problem-focused than emotion-focused coping ways, the correlation analysis informed that emotion-focused and help-seeking coping ways were significantly correlated with interpersonal stress, such as in dealing with clients and colleagues. This study further shows that lawyers invoke social and psychological coping resources to position themselves strategically within prevailing power relations to cope with their interpersonal stress at work.

This paper contributes to the debate on what constitutes good teaching in early 21st Century higher education, through an examination of the experience of five outstanding lecturers from a business school in an Australian university. It is based on a qualitative study that explored their perceptions on what constitutes ‘good teaching’. Resonating with existing research on good teaching practice, the findings suggest that good teachers tend to embrace constructivist principles, and are committed to facilitating learning that is deep, engaged, experientially-based, empowering, reflective, and life-long. The real-life examples of good teaching practice provided by the participants are a valuable resource to higher education teachers, in particular those beginning their careers.

In 1992, a United Nations report had called work stress as ‘The 20th Century Disease’. The ‘always on’ economy of the 21st century has ensured that the prevalence of work-related stress is omnipresent even now like the mobile phones that perpetrate it. As stressors in the environment are continually present, what appears to be an antidote, is to change the response and have a more resilient response. In discussing resilient response, the article more specifically focuses on neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity or ‘brain plasticity’ refers to the brain’s ability to change or adapt both physically and functionally throughout life by stimulation from one’s environment, behaviour, thinking, emotions, etc. The article is based on this plasticity and the contention that brain can be structurally altered through the practice of mindfulness and meditation to develop resilience to stress, and respond better to stress. The article draws from the recent findings in neuroscience to strengthen this argument.

Kualitas guru sangat mempengaruhi pendidikan pada setiap jenjangnya termasuk jenjang sekolah dasar. Profesi guru termasuk salah satu pekerjaan yang memiliki tingkat stres kerja yang tinggi. Salah satu penyebab stres adalah kurikulum pendidikan.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran tingkat stres kerja dan strategi koping guru sekolah dasar negeri dalam implementasi kurikulum 2013 di Kecamatan Bogor Tengah Kota Bogor. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif sederhana dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Penelitian ini melibatkan 222 guru di sekolah dasar negeri Kecamatan Bogor Tengah yang dipilih menggunakan purposive sampling. Hasil penelitian ini menggambarkan bahwa sebesar (81,5%) guru mengalami stres sedang. Penjabaran dari dimensi stres kerja yaitu dimensi peran kerja individu (ORQ), dimensi beban kerja individu (PSQ), dan dimensi sumber daya yang dimiliki (PRQ) menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas guru mengalami stres sedang pada ketiga kategori tersebut. Adapun jenis strategi koping yang paling sering digunakan adalah problem focused coping (54,6%). Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan agar perawat dapat bekerja sama dengan pihak sekolah dasar negeri untuk memfasilitasi kegiatan yang dapat meminimalkan kejadian stres kerja dengan penggunaan strategi koping yang tepat.   Kata kunci: Guru sekolah dasar negeri, stres kerja, kurikulum 2013, strategi koping   THE LEVEL OF STRESS AND COPING STRATEGY OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS IN IMPLEMENTATION OF CURRICULUM 2013   ABSTRACT Teachers quality is greatly influence education at the whole level of education including elementary school level. Teachers are one of the jobs with high levels of work stress. One of the causes of work stress is  educational curriculum. This study aims to determine the level of stress and coping strategy of elementary school teachers in implementation of curriculum 2013 in Bogor Central District, Bogor. The design in this research used descriptive quantitative with cross sectional approach. This study involved 222 elementary schools teachers in Bogor Central District selected by purposive sampling. The results of this study illustrate the majority of elementary schools teachers in Bogor Central District (81,5%) experience moderate stress. Each dimension of work stress, occupational role (ORQ), personal strain (PSQ) and personal resources (PRQ) show that the majority of teachers experience moderate stress. The type of coping strategy that is most often used by elementary schools teachers in Bogor Central Districtis is problem focused coping (54,6%). The results of this study recommend nurses to be able for collaboration with school to facilitate activities that could reduce stress and use appropriate coping strategies.   Keywords: Elementary School Teacher, work stress, curriculum 2013, coping strategy
