Undeniably the most favored web scripting language is PHP. Almost 80% of the internet’s server-side web applications are written in PHP which includes big giants like WordPress, Wikipedia, and Facebook. In present-day, at an accelerating pace, the quantity of digital content is burgeoning. A heterogeneous set of users' devices is being amassed by these contents and administering these contents manually is an infeasible solution engendering an increasing set of problems. A solution to this problem would be to switch to a web programming language, which can be compiled. We are describing an easy to deploy and a continuous conversion mechanism for converting existing Web 2.0 PHP application systems into Facebook’s HHVM supported Hack server-side application systems. We are trying to use the power of Hack language and amplify the performance of existing PHP server-side applications. Instead of interpreting all of your code Hack translates it to assembly and runs that instead, which can lead to an immense amount of increase in performance. We are using Hacktificator, a tool developed by Facebook Developers and our demo web application running on HHVM to test and convert user’s existing PHP codebase to Hack language. With this proposed methodology we do not have to make any change to existing codebase manually or hire new engineers for the conversion, nor do we have to take down our live systems. Conversion can be done on the fly and will result in approximately 2x to 20x better performance. The availability of this tool can save costs for manual conversion, save time as well as improve the user experience of websites with better performance

The Metal Crafters in Pasuruan City who are members of the Indonesian Prosperous (PASINDO) oversees about 300 UMKM of metal. Partners taken by machining and casting groups and packing groups. Metal Craftsman Company manages the management manually, if there is ordering according to job order recorded in big book and finance is not set. Factors in focusing assistance to metal craftsmen under the auspices of Pasindo is knowledge of management information technology and marketing to increase sales. Output targets implemented include conducting financial management and marketing training, operationalizing application systems, entry training and data updating in databases, as well as providing order management training through e-commerce application systems. Method offered approach Metal business unit as seller and buyer based on information technology include: Observation on business partners, designing and making e- commerce application system, and training to Partners. Retail data for 14 months before using a Web-based sales application on a sample of 30 products generated a net profit of Rp. 5,120,000. Sales for 2 months after using the Web application generated a net profit of Rp. 4,356,000. It experienced an increase in profit of Rp. 1,812,286 every month after using a Web-based sales app (E-Commerce).

The paper is based on our academic teaching and research work in software and system engineering to effectively develop modern, complex real-life Web application systems. It bridges the gap between academic education and industry needs and illustrates how such collaboration can be successfully developed in the IT area where technology development is rapid. Its scope covers the processes, models, technologies, people, and knowledge that have the capability to contribute to developing such systems. The paper also relates to contributions of some of Harlan D. Mills award recipients for software engineering achievement, to address the needs to: i) improve the engineering education in an academic setting, and ii) develop real-life software and system projects. Hybrid educational methods are applied for student learning that combine class room approach of teaching fundamental theoretical concepts and practice via real world complex projects embedding intelligence in software and systems products. System thinking demanded by modern design philosophies is applied to interlink prod-ucts, software, and people. Student groups are developing their projects in an interactive and collaborative manner.

It is an accepted fact that no system is perfect from the viewpoint of performance. Problems pertaining to performance affect all types of systems, regardless as to whether they are client/server or Web application systems. It is imperative to understand the factors affecting performance of the system before embarking on the task of tackling them. The constraints affecting the performance may be many but can be broadly classified into (i) technical and (ii) project related factors. The former is very much pronounced in the case of Web-based systems, as the relevant technology has not attained the stage of maturity to address the issues on its own. On the other hand, the project managers struggle to develop an optimal system within the existing technology framework. This in turn, generates many project related factors sub optimizing the performance. Likewise, many factors affecting the performance of the system are discussed in this chapter. The subsequent chapters deal at length with the methods and strategies to tackle these factors.
