Cow-calf enterprises in the Northeastern United States are generally small and often the only agricultural enterprise of families with large off-farm incomes. In this paper, the economic viability of cow-calf enterprises to these investors is considered using a representative farm/economic engineering approach. Investments in farm real estate that is characterized by limited capability soil resources are found to yield negative labor and management incomes but to be economically viable when change in net worth and present value of family after-tax income are considered.

The paper demonstrates the feasibility of using iodine as propellant for thrusters with closed electron drift and its economic viability. It describes a test setup for running experiments. It provides the results of experimental studies of the stationary plasma thruster using iodine as its propellant with xenon gas-passage hollow cathode, as well as of the operational mode of the thruster where a mixture of xenon and iodine is used. During tests gas dynamic and electrical properties of the thruster were analyzed. Thermal conditions in the iodine storage and supply system were studied. Conclusions were drawn on how the test object could be improved and upgraded. The paper describes the option to use a thermionic non-flow cathode as the compensator cathode for the operation of the iodine thruster. The paper provides the results of an experimental study of the prototype non-flow compensator cathode in diode mode. Based on the results of the studies an experimental facility was built for testing a thruster with non-flow compensator cathode. Key words: cathode, compensator cathode, thruster with closed electron drift, stationary plasma thruster, iodine.

The shorter food supply chains were the emerging trend in the agro-food system. The characteristic of local food supply chains are regional, freshness, quality products, and health benefits to the consumers. The present study explores the existing local dairy supply chains in the Haryana state. The local dairy supply chains were analysed and found that the shorter milk supply chains were more profitable with reduced intermediaries and higher producer shares in consumer rupees for all dairy products. The supply chains which involved intermediaries had lesser cost per unit of operation in dairy processing but fetched lower prices due to the quality issues and more distance travelled by dairy products. The economic viability and financial position of the processing units exhibited favourable results for both supply chains but it was higher for Supply Chain-I.

ABSTRACT The study was conducted in South Gujarat for examining the production economics of tomato in the study area. Multistage random sampling technique was employed for the selection of 120 tomato farmers from Kaparada, Mandvi and Vyara talukas of Valsad, Surat and Tapi district, respectively. The net income of 1.57 lakh/ha showed the economic viability of the crop in the study area with a high output-input ratio of 3.25. It was suggested that the timely supply of credit and crop insurance scheme could further encourage growers for tomato production.
