This paper introduces an initial effort towards developing a framework for writing an effective literature review. The target audience for the framework are novice IS researchers or other researchers who are constantly struggling with the development of an effective literature-based foundation for the proposed research. The proposed framework follows the systematic data processing approach comprised of three major stages: 1) inputs (literature gathering and screening), 2) processing (Blooms Taxonomy), and 3) outputs (writing the review). This paper provides the rationale for developing a solid literature review and addresses the central stage, processing the literature. The paper concludes by providing arguments for the value of an effective literature review as well as implications for future work in this proposed framework.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide an analysis of the studies about workaround behavior in the Information Systems (IS) area, addressing its positive and negative aspects and raising the key related issues. Design/methodology/approach A systematic literature review was conducted to verify how workaround behavior has been approached in IS studies. A qualitative method was adopted and implemented in two stages: selection of articles from the time period 2007-2017 in the databases Web of Science, ScienceDirect and Scopus and analysis of the selected articles. Findings The results showed that many studies have been concerned with identifying the principal reasons for the manifestation of workaround behavior and the measures taken to reduce its impacts. Many studies from international journals examined the implementation of an ERP along with the workaround behavior. The need to expand the national studies on workaround behavior is emphasized, because the majority of the identified studies are international. Research limitations/implications The key limitation is related to the period of analysis, because only articles published since 2007 were selected. Practical implications This paper contributes to both theory and practice, bringing relevant concepts about workaround behavior, and corroborating the importance of the studies on workaround in the IS area. The literature review of the 20 articles analyzed reveals the main features in each article, such as theoretical and methodological aspects that support the research. Based on this analysis, a conceptual map was developed presenting the most relevant points about workaround behavior, where the causes, the negative and positive consequences, the types of solutions and the organizational and individual impacts are presented. Originality/value Research into workaround behavior has increased in recent years, however very few studies have been conducted in Brazil. To the best of the authors' knowledge, no articles regarding Brazil and this subject were published between 2007 and 2017. Thus, this paper seeks to redress this imbalance.

This chapter examines the issues surrounding the development of adaptive evolutionary systems by evaluating the characteristics of contemporary development paradigms. It categorises these characteristics as advantages or limitations with respect to the purpose of servicing adaptive evolutionary systems’ requirements. The chapter considers the evolution of development paradigms and concludes that a key limitation in each case has been the preoccupation with addressing the shortcomings of the previous paradigm’s implementation. The maturity of the paradigm is seen as a significant element in determining what the current research issues for that paradigm will be and this observation is used to recommend the line of development that should be taken to avoid recurrent pitfalls. The issues extracted are structured into a framework for the evaluation of any given approach with respect to its suitability for the development of adaptive evolutionary systems. Recommendations are given for future work including recommendations outside the accepted sphere of information systems research.

Is there an Ethical thinking in the development of Information Systems research and engineering in Brazil? The immanence of information systems is multidisciplinary and encompasses socio-technical plurality, unlike other areas of computing, such as computer science or engineering. When considering the epistemological breadth of the discipline, which starts from technique to the study of application, impact, influence and use; the importance of the domain of Ethics becomes paramount. How to think-do Information Systems without reasoning ethically about it? We conducted a Systematic Literature Review guided by the main research question: how does ethics permeate research published in the SBSI between 2011 and 2020? At the same time, how does this phenomenon relate to the Great Challenges in Information Systems (2016-2026)? less than 10% of the more than 700 articles published deal with some ethical aspect, superficially; and less than 1% with ownership. The Ethics Committee was reported in only one article, with very few occurrences of informed consent. That is, SBSI finds itself in a scenario of deep scarcity and shallowness in this topic.

Abstract Background Accelerated by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic, major and lasting changes are occuring in healthcare structures, impacting people's experiences and value creation in all aspects of their lives. Information systems (IS) research can support analysing and anticipating resulting effects. Aim The purpose of this study is to examine in what areas health information systems (HIS) researchers can assess changes in healthcare structures and, thus, be prepared to shape future developments. Method A hermeneutic framework is applied to conduct a literature review and to identify the contributions that IS research makes in analysing and advancing the healthcare industry. Results We draw an complexity theory by borrowing the concept of 'zooming-in and out', which provides us with a overview of the current, broad body of research in the HIS field. As a result of analysing almost 500 papers, we discovered various shortcomings of current HIS research. Contribution We derive future pathways and develop a research agenda that realigns IS research with the transformation of the healthcare industry already under way.
