This chapter describes an innovative early field experience course for secondary teacher candidates that is held onsite at two local high schools. The chapter presents the course experience from the perspective of three stakeholders involved in the teaching and planning of the experiences: the university faculty instructor, a school administrator, and a practicum high school teacher. University candidate voices are also included through an analysis of survey data collected at the end of the most recent course offering. Each stakeholder describes both the tensions and benefits of the partnership and course experiences. By connecting theory and practice through interactions with all stakeholders during the course, the experience honors the expertise of all involved and builds a community of educators working together to improve secondary teacher education.

This chapter encompasses the lived experiences of a high school teacher, high school administrator, and college professor. Each worked through the trials and tribulations of teaching and learning in a pandemic. The authors' narratives provide a vivid account of the initial shock of the pandemic announcements and the life changes that ensued. Written through an equity lens, this chapter explains how instruction is delivered in remote and hybrid settings; the importance of building communication with students, families, and staff; access to technology for learning; and the importance of building relationships with the students and families. This chapter aims to contextualize inequities that existed before the pandemic, how they were exacerbated as schools closed down, and how students' well-being became the necessary focus. The chapter's discussion frames how we can redefine our roles and responsibilities as educators to encourage student agency and the potential of trauma-sensitive schools as a means to help students heal from the wounds caused by this pandemic.

During 1990s, traditional senior high school education encountered challenges of social transitions, information explosion while entering a learning-oriented society. Educational reforms and policies were conducted and enforced nation-wide. School libraries was situated in a turning edge to cope with the education reforms. Two major projects have impacted heavily on the development of high school (including vocational high schools) librarianship. One was the subsidy for collection development from the Ministry of Education that enriched the high schools’ library holdings, the other one was the establishment of “The Senior High School Library Guidance Committee (SHSLGC)”. SHSLGC consists of scholars of Library and Information Science Education, educational administrators, and selected high school library directors. The SHSGC Team started consulting jobs by selecting high school libraries as demonstrative models in different regions of the Island, conducting library symposiums, having published “The Handbook for Senior High School Libraries”, hosting forums for high school principals and chief librarians, establishing professional courses for chief librarians, and paying on-site visits to high school libraries around the Island. The on-site visits created inter-library cooperation and exchange of professional experiences among high schools and vocational high schools. Efforts continued and when the “ Library Law” was effected in year of 2002, SHSLGC gained its legal stands and became a regular organization to officially provide its services to senior school libraries. In addition to its original services 2 during the years, SHSLGC expanded its services to conduct researches on current-status of senior school libraries, posting e-Paper on the Internet, composing a high school e-learning data bank, helping high school libraries to delivery services to communities. This paper addresses the development of SHSLGC, the history, milestones, the implementation, and its impact as well.

The aim of this study is to explore high school library blogs in terms of its construction, purposes, contents and influences to reader services in Taiwan. Ten highly- represented high school library blogs were chosen and compared by using content analysis and interview methods. The findings suggested that the majority of the blog content in high school libraries focus on promoting reading activities. Second, the purposes of constructing library blog are to announce library-related news, provide students a reading environment, and to coordinate with teachers’ instructional activities. Third, the most distinctive influence of library blog in terms of reader services is the extension of communication channel and simplification of announcement procedure. Fourth, more than half of the high school library blogs have reached their expected goals on reader services. Finally, most of the high school libraries are intended to continuingly maintain their blogs toward multiple services direction. Based on above findings, the study has reached the conclusion that the construction of blog is indeed helpful to enhance library reader services. However, the support of school authorities is the key factor on whether the application of blog can be successful to high school libraries.
