Abstract LA SALLE SERIES 83-420 is a low-carbon, bismuth-bearing, free-machining, cold-finished steel that does not contain lead, tellurium or selenium. Its excellent machinability is achieved by the addition of a special bismuth alloy. Series 83-420 reduces friction during machining and the chips break clean and small. This steel machines to a fine satin finish, can be carburized and performs well in cold-working operations such as roll threading, crimping, swaging and peening. It is recommended for automatic screw-machine operations. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: CS-107. Producer or source: LaSalle Steel Company.

Abstract EASTERN STAINLESS Type 317LM is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel containing low carbon (0.03% max.) and relatively high molybdenum (4.00 to 4.5%). It was developed primarily to provide more resistance to attack by sulfurous acid than is provided by competitive conventional stainless steels. Its good corrosion resistance has extended its use to many other industrial applications. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as creep. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-363. Producer or source: Eastern Stainless Steel Company.

Abstract JESSOP TYPE 316L is an extra low carbon variation of Jessop TYPE 316 (See Alloy Digest SS-488, August 1987). It is formulated for resistance to intergranular corrosion in welded or stress relieved structures. JESSOP TYPE 316LM is a more highly alloyed modification of 316L (higher molybdenum and nickel contents) with enhanced pitting and crevice corrosion resistance. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-509. Producer or source: Jessop Steel Company.

Abstract CBS-50NiL VIM-VAR is produced by vacuum induction melting followed by Vac-Are remelting. It meets high cleanliness standards. It is a low carbon, nickel added variant of AISI M50 (see Alloy Digest TS-415, July 1983). High core fracture toughness is its primary advantage over the non-carburizing M50 VIM-VAR. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming and heat treating. Filing Code: SA-462. Producer or source: Lauobe Steel Company. “Originally published October 1991, revised January 1992, revised March 1992.”
