Abstract TIMKEN TBS-9 is a high-carbon, chromium-molybdenum ball-bearing steel that combines high hardenability and low cost. It was designed with metallurgical properties virtually equivalent to those of AISI 52100. TBS-9 is less expensive than the 52100 grade because annealing is simplified. It is produced to the same quality requirements as the 52100 steel. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity as well as fatigue. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: SA-363. Producer or source: Timken Company Steel Divison.

Abstract Algoma AR225 is a carbon steel developed primarily to supply a low-cost material for high-abrasion applications. It is furnished in the form of as-rolled plate with a relatively high carbon content (0.35-0.45%). AR-225 is sold on the basis of chemical analysis only; the number 225 signifies the approximate Brinell hardness. On thicknesses one-half inch and over, this Brinell value may be lower than 225 because of higher finishing temperatures. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: CS-138. Producer or source: Algoma Steel Corporation Ltd.

Abstract GUTERL D-2 is a high-hardenability tool and die steel of the high-carbon, high-chromium type. It has high compressive strength, his resistance to abrasion, minimum distortion in hardening but only fair toughness. Among its many uses are rolls, punches, shear blades, lathe centers and many types of cutting and forming dies. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-380. Producer or source: Guterl Special Steel Corporation.

Abstract SILICO ALLOY is a silicon-manganese shock-resisting tool steel; it has high toughness at relatively high operating hardnesses. It is primarily an oil-hardening steel because of its molybdenum content (0.45%); however, it may be water hardened. It is a low-cost, high-quality steel that combines high toughness with the advantages of oil-hardening non-deforming steels. Its relatively high hardenability coupled with high toughness makes it extremely useful for larges shear blades in severe service. Other applications include pneumatic tools, punches, hand chisels, rivet sets and pipe cutters. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-473. Producer or source: Columbia Tool Steel Company.

Abstract CARPENTER No. 610 is a high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel with extremely high wear-resisting properties. It has very high hardenability (air hardening) and will be practically free from size changes after proper treatment. Its high percentage of chromium gives it mild corrosion resistance in the hardened condition. Typical applications include various types of dies, slitting cutters, heading tools and intricate punches. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, and hardness as well as deformation. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-358. Producer or source: Carpenter.
