Welding induced distortion remain persistent problems leading to the inferior on Product Quality. The study is to investigate on welding induced angular distortion due to effect of anisotropy properties of the As-rolled C-Mn plate. The outcome could enhance the minimum distortion while cutting the raw material on rolling direction for fabrication process. The Anisotropy properties of the base metal were analyzed with along and transverse to rolling direction through microstructure examination, hardness measurement and mechanical properties. Microstructure contains coarse grains of pearlite and ferrite in transverse to rolling, whereas fine grains along the rolling. Hardness was 80 and 84 HRB along and transverse to rolling respectively. A weld bead was laid on the plate’s substrate with along and transverse to the rolling and angular deflections were measured with a dial gauge indicator. Finite element analysis (FEA) was carried out to evaluate the angular deflection on both the rolling. From the experimental results, the anisotropy properties of the as-rolled plate had influenced on angular deflection and indicating with good agreement with FEA.

AbstractSERVIR’s primary objective is to use Earth observation (EO) information and geospatial information technologies (GIT) to address challenges in areas of societal concern such as food security, land use and land cover, water resources, weather, and natural disasters. With a tagline of “connecting space to village”, SERVIR-HKH aims to build the capacities of people and institutions in the HKH region to integrate science and technology into the decision-making processes. To achieve these broad and ambitious objectives, SERVIR-HKH provides scientific information to a wide range of audiences with different societal contexts (Chap. 10.1007/978-3-030-73569-2_1). A picture is worth a thousand words, they say; EO satellites provide pictures of the Earth surface which help scientists to understand the dynamics of natural and anthropogenic processes. Similarly, GIT tools enable analysis and visualization of data, not only for scientific exploration but also to help communicate the information to the intended users in the form of maps and charts. The cartographic principles applied during the map-making process ensure that the scientific information undergoes minimum distortion while communicating to the target audiences.

In this study, the GMAW parameters for welding of A36 mild steel have been investigated to get the minimum of distortion. The type of welded joint used was square groove T-joint fillet weld with filler wire ER70S-6. The welding current and the welding speed were selected as input parameters while the response used was distortion (longitudinal bending distortion and angular distortion). Taguchi method was used to determine optimal welding parameters which the minimum distortion. Design of experiment was set two factors with three level in each factor and three replication, so the L9 Taguchi’s orthogonal array was applied. The minimum conditions were determined using S/N ratio with a quality character of smaller is better (SB). In addition, to determine the significance of the welding parameters used ANOVA. The results show that the welding current of 170 A and the welding speed of 4.0 mm/s were obtained as the minimum of longitudinal bending distortion and angular distortion. Based on analysis of variance, the welding current was a parameter that greatly affects the longitudinal bending distortion with the percentage contribution of 64.36% while angular distortion was strongly influenced by welding speed parameter with the percentage contribution of 53.38%.
