Abstract As a new high-end bearing product, full ceramic ball bearings are favoured in a variety. However, there have been few studies on the lubrication of full ceramic ball bearings. The purpose of this study is to reveal the relationship between the vibration and temperature rise of full ceramic angular contact ball bearings and the lubricant viscosity, and to improve the service life of the bearings. In this study, the effects of lubricant viscosity on the vibration and temperature rise of silicon nitride full ceramic angular contact ball bearings under different axial loads and rotation speeds were tested. Herein, a mathematical model of oil lubrication suitable for full ceramic ball bearings is established and the relationship between the lubricant viscosity, lubricant film thickness, outer ring vibration and temperature rise of the bearing is analyzed. It was found that the vibration and temperature rise first decrease and then increase with the increase of lubricant viscosity. In this range, there is an optimal viscosity value to minimize the vibration and temperature rise of the full ceramic angular contact ball bearing. The contact surface wear of the full ceramic angular contact ball bearing varies greatly under different lubricant viscosities. There is no obvious wear on the contact surface under optimal viscosity, and the service life of the bearing is greatly improved. These results can play an important role in revealing the lubricant mechanism of full ceramic ball bearings and improving their service life under optimal lubrication.

Abstract Objective: The objective of this study was to separately quantify the stability of the megavoltage imager (MVI) and radiation head of an Elekta Unity MRL, throughout full gantry rotation. Approach: A ball-bearing (BB) phantom was attached to the radiation head of the Unity, while a single BB was placed at isocentre. Images were acquired during rotation, using the MVI. These images were processed using an in-house developed MATLAB program to reduce the errors resulted by noise, and the positions of the BBs in the images were analysed to extract MVI and radiation head sag data. Main results: The results returned by this method showed reproducibility, with a mean standard deviation of 7 µm for the position of BBs across all gantry angles. The radiation head was found to sag throughout rotation, with a maximum course of movement of 0.59 mm. The sag pattern was stable over a period greater than a year but showed some dependence on gantry rotation direction. Significance: As MRL is a relatively new system, it is promising to have data supporting the high level of precision on one Elekta Unity machine. Isolating and quantifying the sources of uncertainty in radiation delivery may allow more sophisticated analysis of how the system performance may be improved.

In this paper, for double row angular contact ball bearing, a five-degrees-of-freedom bearing analysis model based on quasi-statics is proposed. This model is used to study the influence of structural parameters and service conditions on the tilt angle and limit tilt angle of the bearing. The results show that the radial clearance will increase the ultimate tilt angle. The coincidence degree between the roller and the inner raceway will reduce the ultimate tilt angle, but the coincidence degree between the roller and the outer raceway has the opposite effect. The increase in the external load of the bearing will increase the tilt angle. The moment load has the greatest effect on the tilt angle. The rotation speed of the bearing has no effect on the tilt angle. The coincidence degree between the roller and the raceway will reduce the tilt angle; furthermore, the influence of the coincidence degree between roller and different ring on the tilt angle is also different when different rings are fixed. The tilt angle will decrease with the increase of the initial contact angle, and this effect is more and more obvious. The fixation of different ring has no effect on this influence.

The use of electronics and computer technology in production systems has greatly improved the quality of our industrial products. The productivity of these installations is a function of the maintenance quality applied to the equipment. Several methods are used to monitor the functioning of industrial installations. One of these methods is vibration analysis. The vibration signals from the rotating machines support several types of information related to the working state of the production tool. The processing of this information makes it possible to have decision tools for maintenance. In this work, we propose a method of anticipating the maintenance of rotating machines. The algorithm we propose starts with the removal of 512 point windows during the running time of the ball bearing. Each signal is decomposed by DWT: we obtain the approximation coefficients. These coefficients make it possible to determine the correlation coefficient between the so-called reference window and the other windows following the functioning of the ball bearing. The correlation coefficient is then the fundamental element of the decision. This algorithm has been applied to real vibration data and the results are encouraging.

Abstract The rotor misalignment fault, which occurs only second to unbalance, easily occurs in the practical rotating machinery system. Rotor misalignment can be further divided into coupling misalignment and bearing misalignment. However, most of the existing references only analyze the effect of coupling misalignment on the dynamic characteristics of the rotor system, and ignore the change of bearing excitation caused by misalignment. Based on the above limitations, a five degrees of freedom nonlinear restoring force mathematical model is proposed, considering misalignment of bearing rings and clearance of cage pockets. The finite element model of the rotor is established based on the Timoshenko beam element theory. The coupling misalignment excitation force and rotor unbalance force are introduced. Finally, the dynamic model of the ball bearing-coupling-rotor system is established. The radial and axial vibration responses of the system under misalignment fault are analyzed by simulation. The results show that the bearing misalignment significantly influences the dynamic characteristics of the system in the low-speed range, so bearing misalignment should not be ignored in modeling. With the increase of rotating speed, rotor unbalance and coupling misalignment have a greater impact. Misalignment causes periodic changes in bearing contact angle, radial clearance, and ball rotational speed. It also leads to reciprocating impact and collision between the ball and cage. In addition, misalignment increases the critical speed and the axial vibration of the system. The results can provide a basis for health monitoring and misalignment fault diagnosis of the rolling bearing-rotor system.
