Abstract ALMOLD 20 is a chromium-molybdenum tool steel of medium-carbon content. It was designed especially for zinc die casting dies and plastic molds. It is produced to high-quality tool-steels standards to permit a high luster to be achieved on polished die cavity surfaces. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, and hardness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-292. Producer or source: Allegheny Ludlum Corporation.

Abstract AISI Type P20 is a chromium-molybdenum tool steel of medium carbon content. It usually is supplied in the prehardened condition (about 300 Brinell) so that the cavity can be machined and the mold or die placed directly in service; however, for some uses further treatments are employed. It is produced to high-quality tool-steel standards to permit a high luster to be achieved on the surface of the polished die cavity. P20 is used for molds for plastics and for die-casting dies for zinc and other low-temperature casting alloys. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: TS-393. Producer or source: Tool steel mills.

Abstract SILICO ALLOY is a silicon-manganese shock-resisting tool steel; it has high toughness at relatively high operating hardnesses. It is primarily an oil-hardening steel because of its molybdenum content (0.45%); however, it may be water hardened. It is a low-cost, high-quality steel that combines high toughness with the advantages of oil-hardening non-deforming steels. Its relatively high hardenability coupled with high toughness makes it extremely useful for larges shear blades in severe service. Other applications include pneumatic tools, punches, hand chisels, rivet sets and pipe cutters. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-473. Producer or source: Columbia Tool Steel Company.

Abstract BETHALLOY is a low-alloy oil-hardening tool steel. Because of its relatively low carbon content (for tool steels), it has slightly better shock resistance than more highly alloyed types and may be used wherever wear resistance can be sacrificed for moderately increased toughness. This datasheet provides information on composition and hardness as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-308. Producer or source: Bethlehem Steel Corporation.

Abstract Crucible REX M4 is a special-purpose high-speed tool steel that is designed to provide high wear resistance in tools. Its high vanadium and carbon content provides superior resistance to cratering and wear in cold work punches, die inserts, and cutting applications involving high speed and light cuts. It is designed to give maximum performance while working with abrasive materials, exhibiting better wear resistance than Types M2 or M3. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-812. Producer or source: Crucible Industries LLC.

Abstract AISI is a water-hardening tool steel that resists wear and abrasion from four to ten times longer than plain carbon tool steels. When hardened, it acquires a hard-slippery surface that is difficult to scratch. Its many uses for tools include dies for a variety of products, reamers and finishing tools. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-298. Producer or source: Tool steel mills.

Abstract VDM LC-Nickel 99.2 is unalloyed nickel which offers excellent corrosion resistance in many alkaline media. The metal also has good mechanical, magnetic, and magnetostrictive properties. It has a reduced carbon content to avoid graphitization at temperatures above 570 deg F (300 deg C). This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: Ni-502. Producer or source: VDM Technologies Corporation.
