Abstract AISI Type M4 is a high-hardenability tool steel developed to provide the excellent abrasion resistance that results from higher-than-normal carbon and vanadium in the molybdenum-tungsten high-speed steels. It is recommended where sharp edges are needed for fine cuts. It is an excellent choice for heavy-duty cutting operations and should always be used at or near its maximum secondary hardness. Typical applications are reamers, milling cutters, punches and lathe tools. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: TS-376. Producer or source: Tool steel mills.

Abstract AISI Type M1 is a general-purpose high-molybdenum, low-tungsten type of high-speed tool steel. It has an excellent combination of cutting ability, toughness and finishing properties. Its cutting ability is good except for heavy-duty, continuous cutting operations where the ultimate in red-hardness is required. Its toughness is as great as that of any other high-speed steel. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: TS-314. Producer or source: Tool steel mills.

Abstract AISI Type M7 is a molybdenum type of high-speed steel. It is somewhat similar to AISI Type M1 tool steel but with higher percentages of carbon and vanadium to provide an improvement over AISI Type M1 in cutting characteristics without a significant loss in toughness. It is suitable for a wide variety of cutting-tool applications where improved resistance to abrasion is required. The many uses of Type M7 include twist drills, end mills, shear blades, punches, milling cutters, lathe tools, taps and reamers. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-483. Producer or source: Tool steel mills. See also Alloy Digest TS-468, January 1987.

Abstract AISI Type M33 is a heavy-duty high-speed steel; it contains 8.00% cobalt to improved red hardness. It is recommended for cutting-tool applications in which wear resistance and high temperature hardness are important characteristics. It should not be used where excessive shock and/or chatter are encountered. AISI Type M33 is well suited to uses such as machining hard and heat-treated materials and machining both ferrous and nonferrous aircraft alloys. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Abstract AISI Type H26 hot-work tool steel is the 18 tungsten-4 chromium-1 vanadium high-speed composition with lowered carbon to provide a high-degree of toughness. It has high red hardness and good resistance to abrasion. It is preferable to the conventional hot-work tool steels for applications in which higher hardness must be maintained at elevated temperatures. It is also recommended in cold-work that involve long runs, but should not be used where liquid cooling is required. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: TS-294. Producer or source: Tool steel mills.
