Accordingly, some suggestions are proposed especially for the Turkish teacher education system. Some of the suggestions are increasing the hours of practicum, having an interview before they are accepted to education programs, having an interview and a written exam in every five years after they are appointed to a teaching post.

Quality enhancement of teacher education programs has been a debatable issue all over the world. The present study was aimed to assess the quality of teacher education programs being offered in a public sector university in Pakistan. Three programs were randomly selected and prospective teachers studying in the final semester were selected as sample of the study. Prospective teachers studying in last semester of teacher training programs were the respondents. Questionnaire, containing 55 statements divided into six factors, was used as data collection tool. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 20. Descriptive statistics showed that the respondents were more satisfied about the selection criteria, effectiveness of teaching strategies used by teachers, behavior modification practices, appropriateness of courses, timely feedback, and teachers’ content knowledge but they were less satisfied with the statements related to availability of multimedia in the classes, sharing of faculty offices, no distortion of external factors, space to conduct activities, cleanliness and neatness of classrooms, and environment helpful for learning. The results of inferential statistics revealed significant difference in mean score of respondents from different programs on the factors of admission criteria, use of technology, assessment procedure, and quality of paper development and marking. It is recommended in the light of results that the university should allocate special budget to improve the quality of infrastructure. Furthermore, availability of technology and its proper use should be ensured by the university administratio

The survey reported here was conducted for the purpose of obtaining information about the status of secondary school mathematics teacher-education programs. The dearth of information about teacher-education programs was emphasized in the NACOME report (1975). The NACOME report particularly pointed out that little evidence exists on activities oriented toward preparation of mathematics teachers. This report represents an attempt to provide such information. In reporting the results, questions will be identified that need to be asked in order to obtain a clearer picture of the dynamics of a teacher-education program. We regret that we did not ask these questions.

Several institutions, worldwide, have established ICT standards and are updating them to guide ICT usage by teachers and teacher education programs. Though Chile has the Enlaces project, a regionally and internationally recognized initiative for ICT insertion, it did not count on an ICT Standards Proposal to guide teacher education programs. For this reason, the Center for Education and Technology CET-ENLACES of the Ministry of Education of Chile (MINEDUC) has developed, since 2005, a policy to integrate ICT into Teacher Education. This article introduces the work done to define those standards and the actions taken to make them known and used by universities involved in teacher education.

Research suggests the fastest growing group in teacher training programs is second career teachers (Brooks & Hill, 2004). This chapter examines the profiles of second-career pre-service teachers in a blended online program in Silicon Valley, California. Participants' motivations and reasons for becoming an educator were examined from a sociocultural lens to understand how economic, social, and cultural factors might influence their decision to enter the teaching profession. In addition, formative, social, and personal experiences provide insight as to why this group selected a non-traditional teacher education program, and what prior skills and experiences they bring to the teaching profession.
