Linguistic variable is an effective method of representation the preferences of a decision-maker for inaccuracy available information in decision making under uncertainty. This article investigates a multiple attribute ranking decision making problem with linguistic preference by using linguistic value soft rough set. Firstly, we present the definition of linguistic value fuzzy set by introduce the concept of linguistic variable into the original Zadeh’s fuzzy set. We then define the concept of linguistic value soft set and the pseudo linguistic value soft set over the alternative set and parameter set of discourse. Moreover, we investigate the basic operators and the mathematical properties of the linguistic value soft set. Subsequently, we establish the rough approximation of an uncertainty concept with linguistic value over the object set and parameter set, i.e., the linguistic value soft rough set model. Meanwhile, we discuss several deformations of the linguistic value soft rough lower and upper approximations as well as some fundamental properties of the linguistic value soft approximation operators. With reference on the exploring of the fundamental of linguistic value soft rough set, we construct a new method for handling with the multiple attribute ranking decision making problems with linguistic information by combining the proposed soft rough set and the VIKOR method. Then, we give the detailed decision procedure and steps for the established decision approach. At last, an extensive numerical example is further conducted to illustrate the process of the decision making principle and the results are satisfactory. The main contribution of this paper is twofold. One is to provide a new model of granular computing by infusion the soft set and rough set theory with linguistic valued information. Another is to try making a new way to handle multiple attribute decision making problems based on linguistic value soft rough set and the VIKOR method.

When solving multiple attribute decision making (MADM) problems, the 2-tuple linguistic variable is an effective tool that can not only express complex cognitive information but also prevent loss of information in calculation. The picture fuzzy set (PFS) has three degrees and has more freedom to express cognitive information. In addition, Archimedean t-conorm and t-norm (ATT) can generalize most existing t-conorms and t-norms and Maclaurin symmetric mean (MSM) operators can catch the relationships among the multi-input parameters. Therefore, we investigate several novel aggregation operators, such as the picture 2-tuple linguistic MSM (2TLMSM) operator based on the ATT (ATT-P2TLMSM) and the picture 2-tuple linguistic generalized MSM (2TLGMSM) operator based on ATT (ATT-P2TLGMSM). Considering that the input parameters have different importance, we proposed picture 2-tuple linguistic weighted MSM (2TLWMSM) operators based on ATT (ATT-P2TLWMSM) and picture 2-tuple linguistic weighted generalized MSM (2TLWGMSM) operators based on ATT (ATT-P2TLWGMSM). Finally, a MADM method is introduced, and an expositive example is presented to explain the availability and applicability of the developed operators and methods.

AbstractOn the basis of the combination of single-valued neutrosophic sets and hesitant fuzzy sets, this article proposes a single-valued neutrosophic hesitant fuzzy set (SVNHFS) as a further generalization of the concepts of fuzzy set, intuitionistic fuzzy set, single-valued neutrosophic set, hesitant fuzzy set, and dual hesitant fuzzy set. Then, we introduce the basic operational relations and cosine measure function of SVNHFSs. Also, we develop a single-valued neutrosophic hesitant fuzzy weighted averaging (SVNHFWA) operator and a single-valued neutrosophic hesitant fuzzy weighted geometric (SVNHFWG) operator and investigate their properties. Furthermore, a multiple-attribute decision-making method is established on the basis of the SVNHFWA and SVNHFWG operators and the cosine measure under a single-valued neutrosophic hesitant fuzzy environment. Finally, an illustrative example of investment alternatives is given to demonstrate the application and effectiveness of the developed approach.

Fuzzy sets, rough sets, and later on IF sets became useful mathematical tools for solving various decision making problems and data mining problems. Molodtsov introduced another concept soft set theory as a general frame work for reasoning about vague concepts. Since most of the data collected are either linguistic variable or consist of vague concepts so IF set and soft set help a lot in data mining problem. The aim of this paper is to introduce the concept of IF soft lower rough approximation and IF upper rough set approximation. Also, some properties of this set are studied, and also some problems of decision making are cited where this concept may help. Further research will be needed to apply this concept fully in the decision making and data mining problems.

The soft set theory, originally proposed by Molodtsov, can be used as a general mathematical tool for dealing with uncertainty. In this paper, we present concepts of soft rough intuitionistic fuzzy sets and intuitionistic fuzzy soft rough sets, and investigate some properties of soft rough intuitionistic fuzzy sets and intuitionistic fuzzy soft rough sets in detail. Furthermore, classical representations of intuitionistic fuzzy soft rough approximation operators are presented. Finally, we develop an approach to intuitionistic fuzzy soft rough sets based on decision making and a numerical example is provided to illustrate the developed approach.

A linguistic cubic variable (LCV) is comprised of interval linguistic variable and single-valued linguistic variable. An LCV contains decision-makers’ uncertain and certain linguistic judgments simultaneously. The advantage of the Dombi operators contains flexibility due to its changeable operational parameter. Although the Dombi operations have been extended to many studies to solve decision-making problems; the Dombi operations are not used for linguistic cubic variables (LCVs) so far. Hence, the Dombi operations of LCVs are firstly presented in this paper. A linguistic cubic variable Dombi weighted arithmetic average (LCVDWAA) operator and a linguistic cubic variable Dombi weighted geometric average (LCVDWGA) operator are proposed to aggregate LCVs. Then a multiple attribute decision making (MADM) method is developed in LCV setting on the basis of LCVDWAA and LCVDWGA operators. Finally, two illustrative examples about the optimal choice problems demonstrate the validity and the application of this method.

Abstract In this paper, by integrating the q-rung orthopair fuzzy set (q-ROFS) with the N-soft set (NSS), we first propose a q-rung orthopair fuzzy N-soft set (q-ROFNSS). Based on the q-ROFNSS, then we explore the q-rung orthopair fuzzy N-soft weighted average (q-ROFNSWA) operator and q-rung orthopair fuzzy N-soft weighted geometric (q-ROFNSWG) operator, and investigate some properties of the q-ROFNSWG operator and q-ROFNSWG operator including idempotency, monotonicity and boundedness. Finally, two kinds of multiple-attribute group decision making (MAGDM) methods based on q-rung orthopair fuzzy N-soft aggregation operators are established. In addition, a practical example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness and correctness of the new decision-making approaches. Through comparison with existing methods, the advantages of our method are elaborated.

Multiple attribute decision making (MADM) is full of uncertainty and vagueness due to intrinsic complexity, limited experience and individual cognition. Representative decision theories include fuzzy set (FS), intuitionistic fuzzy set (IFS), hesitant fuzzy set (HFS), dual hesitant fuzzy set (DHFS) and so on. Compared with IFS and HFS, DHFS has more advantages in dealing with uncertainties in real MADM problems and possesses good symmetry. The membership degrees and non-membership degrees in DHFS are simultaneously permitted to represent decision makers’ preferences by a given set having diverse possibilities. In this paper, new distance measures for dual hesitant fuzzy sets (DHFSs) are developed in terms of the mean, variance and number of elements in the dual hesitant fuzzy elements (DHFEs), which overcomes some deficiencies of the existing distance measures for DHFSs. The proposed distance measures are effectively applicable to solve MADM problems where the attribute weights are completely unknown. With the help of the new distance measures, the attribute weights are objectively determined, and the closeness coefficients of each alternative can be objectively obtained to generate optimal solution. Finally, an evaluation problem of airline service quality is conducted by using the distance-based MADM method to demonstrate its validity and applicability.
