The aim of this article is to supplement existing research on English phraseology and its use in literary works by exploring the behavioural patterns of phrasal verbs, which is a recognized challenge among English language learners. This article contrasts a number of phrasal verbs and highlights their active use among the language speakers. This work includes collocation of phrasal verbs, their semantic preference and sequence. Each idea is supported by a definition and fairly illustrated by examples

AbstractUsing the much debated German particle verb construction as an example, some basic questions of Construction Grammar are investigated: constructional meanings, compositionality of meaning, the role of lexical verb bases, morphological and/or syntactal analysis. It is argued that the traditional mode of presentation in historical-comparative grammar (as practiced by Neogrammarians like Hermann Paul) is “constructional” in spirit and mirrors empirical concern for constructional change and constructional meaning. Prototypical verb particles are analyzed within a pattern of grammaticalization and lexicalization of adverbial relators stemming from deictic “imperatives” comparable with English elements like Down!, Up!, Away!, Out!. These elements are the sources for the evolution of prepositions and copredicative adverbials used to build patterns of “phrasal verbs” and particle constructions.

Countless research studies have been carried out covering a wide range of aspects associated with phrasal verbs. However, little has been done when it comes to phrasal verbs in the mechanical engineering discourse, more so in the ESP teaching in the B/C/S context. This paper was aimed at investigating the role of phrasal verbs in the technical discourse, identifying the most frequent phrasal verbs within the mechanical engineering register, and determining the level of familiarity with such structures among the students at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Zenica.

AbstractWhitehouse adapts insights from evolutionary anthropology to interpret extreme self-sacrifice through the concept of identity fusion. The model neglects the role of normative systems in shaping behaviors, especially in relation to violent extremism. In peaceful groups, increasing fusion will actually decrease extremism. Groups collectively appraise threats and opportunities, actively debate action options, and rarely choose violence toward self or others.
