Bangladesh lies in Indian subcontinent, an area rich in Pteris species. However, so far there is no modern account on the species diversity of Pteris in Bangladesh. Based on a thorough study of literature and limited specimens available to us, we currently recognize 15 species of Pteris in Bangladesh. Among these species, P. giasii is currently known only from Bangladesh; P. longipinnula, which has not been collected since 1858, was recently rediscovered in Sylhet. Pteris cretica, P. pellucida, P. quadriaurita var. quadriaurita, and P. quadriaurita var. setigera are excluded for the fern flora of Bangladesh. To facilitate the recognition of species, a key to species and brief notes for each species are provided. Bangladesh J. Plant Taxon. 28(1): 131-140, 2021 (June)

The genus Methocha Latreille (Hymenoptera: Tiphiidae) from India was studied, resulting in the description of a new species based on females, Methocha krombeini Hanima, Girish Kumar & Binoy sp. nov., and two new species based on males, M. paraceylonica Hanima, Girish Kumar & Binoy sp. nov., and M. shyamagatra Hanima, Girish Kumar & Sureshan sp. nov. from India. A key to species of Methocha occurring in the Indian subcontinent is provided.

Bhatia radhamaniae sp. nov. (Karnataka: Sirsi) and Bhatia serrata sp. nov. (Kerala: Nilambur) are described and illustrated. The genus Bhatia is redefined. A key to species of Bhatia from the Indian subcontinent is also provided. New locality records for Bhatia distanti Zhang & Webb, Carvaka kumari Viraktamath, Indokutara conica Viraktamath, Kotabala adiveyyai Viraktamath and Parohinka longiseta (Melichar) are given.

Abstract. Saensouk P, Saensouk S. 2021. Taxonomic studies and three new records on genus Geostachys (Baker) Ridl. in Thailand. Biodiversitas 22: 3057-3067. A comprehensive taxonomic study and three new records of genus Geostachys (Baker) Ridl. in Thailand have not been reported. This research aimed to study the taxonomical aspect of the genus Geostachys in Thailand based on herbarium collections, fresh materials, and available literatures. Nine species of Geostachys have been recognized with their updated nomenclature in Thailand, namely G. angustifolia K. Larsen, G. chayanii Mayoe, G. decurvata (Baker) Ridl., G. holttumii K. Larsen, G. kerrii K. Larsen, G. penangensis Ridl., G. pierreana Gagnep., G. smitinandii K. Larsen, and. G. tratensis Picheans. & Mayoe. Three species, namely G. decurvata, G. pierreana, and G. penangensis are found to be new records to Thailand. Six species, namely G. angustifolia, G. chayanii, G. holttumii, G. kerrii, G. smitinandii, and G. tratensis were endemic to Thailand. The identification key to species, detailed descriptions, photographs, vernacular name, geographical distribution, ecology, phenology, conservation status, and taxonomic notes have been provided.

This study demonstrates that the vascular flora of the Rangpur district area consists of 825 species under 537 genera and 139 families. The pteridophytes and gymnosperms are represented by 25 and seven species, respectively, whereas the angiosperms by 793 species including 582 species of dicotyledons (Magnoliopsida) and 211 species of monocotyledons (Liliopsida). Poaceae with 67 species, representing 8.12% of the flora, is appeared as the largest family, and followed by Asteraceae, Fabaceae, Araceae, Malvaceae and Euphorbiaceae that collectively constitute 17.94% of this flora. Persicaria comprising 10 species is recorded as the largest genus, and followed by Ficus, Euphorbia, Solanum, Albizia and Brassica. About 59.71% taxa of this flora are herbs, 21.71% trees, 14.72% shrubs and the rest are palms, lianas, and bamboos. Erect herbs forming 35.22% of the flora comprise the most common life-form. In this flora, almost 64.29% taxa are native and the rest 35.71% are exotic. Nearly 62.61% taxa of the flora are found in wild, 26.90% as planted and 10.49% as cultivated. About 35.46% of the species commonly occur throughout all upazilas of this district. Most of the species are harboured in fallow lands, roadsides, gardens, and homesteads. All species of this district flora are known as economically useful. Most of its habitats and ecosystems are exposed to different threats. Adequate measures with effective management plans should be adopted and implemented for the sustainable use, improvement and conservation of this precious flora. Bangladesh J. Polkepsilonema arabicensis sp. n. is discovered from the coralline sand of Lakshadweep island, located off the south-western coast of India. The species differs from other congeners by its unique combination of characters: presence of fine spines along the body curvatures, 5–6 rows of bisinuous ambulatory setae, male with two clusters of ventral copulatory thorns and 14 subcephalic sensilla. The novel species is the fourth discovery of the genus and first record from the coastal areas of Indian subcontinent. A key to species level is provided.

The objective of the study was to conduct a thorough anatomical, morphological and taxonomic study of the species of the lichen genus Peltula from Baikal Siberia belonging to the group with peltate-umbilicate sorediate thallus (euploca-bolanderi-type). Until now, among over 40 Peltula species, only four ones belonged to this group (P. africana, P. bolanderi, P. euploca and P. farinosa). In addition to the widespread species P. euploca, two new species have been identified, essentially different from all the four previously known members of the group, primarily by the expressed polyphyllous character of the thallus. Descriptions of the new species, P. pannarioides and P. rosulata, with their macro and micro photos and a map of their distribution, are provided. P. pannarioides is characterized by a thick polyphyllous thallus, upturned undulate sorediate margins of lobes, brown-grey reticulate-grained pruinose upper surface, large granulose soredia, thick cracked epinecral layer, and medulla composed of densely interwoven periclinally oriented hyphae. P. rosulata is characterized by thin polyphyllous thallus, upturned undulate sorediate margins of lobes, dark-brown, smooth, matte upper surface, large granulose soredia, thin continuous brownish epinecral layer, and medulla composed of loosely interwoven periclinally and anticlinally oriented hyphae. The territory of Baikal Siberia and of Southern Siberia as a whole may be regarded as one of the centers of the species diversity of genus Peltula, namely of the group of species with polyphyllous umbilicate sorediate thallus. The entire complex of the species with the euploca-bolanderi-type thallus requires more detailed study.
