In the last few years the understanding of mechanisms and, consequently, the diagnosis of neuropathic pain (NP) has becoming progressively clearer in clinical practice. However, the treatment of such condition remains challenging so far. One of the reasons for such difficulty is the diversity of mechanisms involved in NP generation and its persistency. In the present review we discuss several treatment modalities for NP that are scantily applied in daily clinical practice. For that, we collected positive clinical evidence of unusual and SECS (Safe, Easy, Cheap, and Sensible) approaches for NP. The aim of this review is not to establish the “state of the art” or rigid guidelines for NP treatment. In a different way, we only want bring new possibilities of treatment to the readers and also to motivate investigators to confirm those positive preliminary but promising results for NP reliev.

Aim of this paper is to review the state of the art of so-called altered states of consciousness, anomalous experiences, and exceptional human experiences, showing the need for reappraising the whole topic and gather them under one roof. The term Non-Ordinary Mental Expressions (NOMEs) and a new classification of non-pathological ostensibly odd phenomena is introduced, emphasizing their epistemological, transcultural and interdisciplinary implications with their huge  implications in medical and psychotherapeutical clinical practice.

International Textbook of Reflective Practice in Nursing is an edited book with an in-depth discourse about reflective practice from a global perspective. The book addresses using reflective practice for evidence-based clinical practice, curriculum and education, and research. As a result, the content may be useful for practicing nurses, educators, and researchers. After reading the first chapter on the state of the art of reflective practice, you can read the other chapters on a stand-alone basis. Overall, reflective practice is presented as a core process in three areas: (1) knowledge development, (2) improving practice through supervision and leadership, and (3) enhancing teaching and learning. At the end of each chapter are historical and recent references that represent a global viewpoint.

The development of nuclear medicine in Germany from early approaches with 32P and 1311 to the first radioiodine therapy of thyroid cancer up to the clarification of basic principles for current thyroid diagnostics and for functional scintigraphic imaging are presented. Selected references are used in portraying scientific stepping stones of our speciality as well as its establishment in clinical practice during the first two decades. Researchers, places, and facts are specified and interpreted in their relation to the state-of-the-art of nuclear medicine.

Various authors have emphasized the spatial information resident in an electron micrograph taken with adequately coherent radiation. In view of the completion of at least one such instrument, this opportunity is taken to summarize the state of the art of processing such micrographs. We use the usual symbols for the aberration coefficients, and supplement these with £ and 6 for the transverse coherence length and the fractional energy spread respectively. He also assume a weak, biologically interesting sample, with principal interest lying in the molecular skeleton remaining after obvious hydrogen loss and other radiation damage has occurred.
