The multi-net visible fidelity zooplankton collector is designed to obtain near-bottom fidelity zooplankton. The collector is sent to the designated sampling location based on the information provided by the camera and altimeter. The host computer sends instructions to control the opening of the net port for sample collection and closing of the sampling cylinder cover after sampling. The collector contains three trawls so that three samples can be collected for each test, and environmental parameters can be collected simultaneously. After sampling, The sample maintains its fidelity, that is, maintaining the temperature and pressure of the seabed sample after sampling. Two experiments were carried out in the Western Pacific, and six bottles of zooplankton samples were successfully obtained. The development of a multi-net visible zooplankton collector is of great significance for the collection of near-bottom zooplankton.

A new Gram-stain-positive, aerobic, non-motile and rod-shaped actinobacterium, designated O1T, was isolated from a deep-sea sediment of the Western Pacific Ocean. Strain O1T showed optimal growth at 30 °C, between pH 6.0 and 8.0, and in the presence of 1–5 % (w/v) NaCl. The predominant menaquinone was MK-8 (H2), and anteiso-C15 : 0 and anteiso-C17 : 0 were the major fatty acids. The diagnostic diamino acid in the cell-wall peptidoglycan was meso-diaminopimelic acid. The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol and one unknown glycolipid. The DNA G+C content of strain O1T was 64.9 mol% and the genome size was 4.17 Mb. Based on a similarity search and phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence, strain O1T belonged to the genus Brevibacterium . The values of average nucleotide identity and in silico DNA–DNA hybridization between strain O1T and its close relatives were well below the thresholds used for the delineation of a new species. On the basis of the morphological and chemotaxonomic characteristics, as well as the genotypic data, it is proposed that strain O1T represents a novel species of the genus Brevibacterium , for which the name Brevibacterium profundi sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is O1T (=JCM 33845T=MCCC 1A16744T).

Seamounts are features generated by hot spots and associated intraplate volcanic activity. The geochemical characteristics of igneous rocks constituting seamounts provide evidence of important details of dynamic processes in the Earth, such as mantle magma source areas, and are key to understanding how mantle plume processes control the formation and evolution of seamounts and their resulting geochemical characteristics. The Pacific Ocean contains a large number of hitherto unstudied seamounts, whose ages and geochemical characteristics remain poorly known. This study presents the geochemical characteristics of six basalt samples from five seamounts in the Western Pacific and the 40Ar/9Ar ages of three samples are determined. The new analysis yielded 40Ar/39Ar ages for seamounts samples MP3D21, MP5D11, and MP5D15A of 95.43 ± 0.33, 62.4 ± 0.26, and 99.03 ± 0.4 Ma, respectively. The geochemical profiles of seamounts samples MP3D04, MP3D21, MP5D11, MP5D15A, MPID201, and MPID202 are consistent with alkaline basalts, as evidence by alkali-rich, silicon-poor compositions along with high titanium concentrations. The primitive mantle normalized rare-earth elements and trace elements spider pattern are similar to those of ocean island basalts. The Ta/Hf and Nb/Zr ratios and La/Zr-Nb/Zr discriminant diagrams indicate that the six seamounts formed from magma that originated in the deep mantle.

A new species ofSystellaspisSpence Bate, 1888,Systellaspis liuisp. nov., was discovered in the deep waters of the western Pacific. It is closely allied toS. debilis(A. Milne-Edwards, 1881), but it differs morphologically in the blade of the scaphocerite being equipped with a medial dorsal groove, the spines on pereiopods 1 to 5, the dorsal margin of the third abdominal somite with a carina, the posterior margin of the fifth abdominal somite, and the dorsal margin of the telson armed with at least two rows of spines on each side. A key to the species ofSystellaspisis provided.
