I have recently had the privilege of being appointed Editor-in-Chief of this very exciting and innovative Open Access Journal, and hereby extend a warm welcome to everyone as we launch Astronomy Studies Development, which will seek to publish high quality, peer-reviewed, original manuscripts in all fields of astronomy and astrophysics, though with a particular focus on mathematical techniques and methodology and innovative ideas for instrumental development and modeling in astronomy and astrophysics. The journal will also seek to publish simulations in all areas, including cosmology, particle astrophysics, accretion, and diffuse media. Our journal will include both full length research articles and letter articles, and its coverage extends over solar, stellar, galactic and extragalactic astronomy and astrophysics, and will report original research in all wavelength bands. Astronomy and Astrophysics are rather mature disciplines, with a history of quality journals over the past century or more. So one may reasonably ask why a new journal such as this is needed. Obviously, I myself have answered this question in the affirmative. After a long career in research and publishing, I have the perspective to provide several good reasons for helping to promote the evolution of publishing in Astronomy and Astrophysics to a place more in line with present technology..........

We are delightfully announcing the launch of Biomedical Engineering International, a new interdisciplinary international scholarly open-access journal dedicated to publishing original and innovative research in the field of biomedical engineering. Any type of scientific paper, including reviews, original research papers, communications, or short notes, are welcome to be submitted. Any paper will further undergo the process of peer-reviewing according to the scientific standards of the journal. The scope of Biomedical Engineering International comprises all the directions of interest for the development of (pre-)clinical applications that could improve the quality of life, from tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and drug delivery systems, to microfluidics, neural engineering, and micro- and nanotechnology. Thus, Biomedical Engineering International aims to create an interdisciplinary communication tool for scientists in various fields, from chemists, engineers, biologists, to physicists, informaticians, and theoreticians. Readers can access open access articles for free, but authors or research funders pay article-processing charges to publish them. This requirement may deter authors in low-income countries from publishing in open access. This study investigates the choices that authors make among three types of open access journal and closed (subscription) journals in history, economics, science, and technology based on their countries’ income level. The sample comprises research articles published in journals in English in 2020 and indexed in Scopus. The results show that authors in low-income countries publish more in gold open access than do authors in lower-middle- and upper-middle-income countries, who tend not to publish in hybrid open access and to favour closed journals. Authors from high-income countries publish more in hybrid open access than do authors in the other groups of countries. Although major publishers waive their article-processing charges for authors in low-income countries, these authors amount to less than 1 per cent of the total. Improving the effectiveness of publishers’ waiver policies is necessary.

First, it provides an overview of the new, peer-reviewed, open access journal Biochemistry Insights published by Libertas Academica. Second, it summarizes the benefits of open access publishing concepts to the biochemistry community. And third, it takes a brief look at the near future of biochemistry as a fundamental molecular science whose continued advances and latest developments will be the focus of the new journal. It is a great pleasure to welcome you to Biointerface Research in Applied Chemistry, a new open access journal, which is dedicated to innovative, practically oriented original research on the fabrication, characterization, functionalization, and manipulation of biomaterials and nanomaterials, hybrid nanosized structures and nanocomposites, with a strong emphasis on the ecological and biomedical applications of nanosystems, new strategies for fighting antibiotic resistance and biofilms’ development in natural, medical and industrial environments, design of new synthetic compounds and the discovery of new natural bioactive compounds. The prime aim of Biointerface Research in Applied Chemistry is to publish first-class, original research articles under an open access policy with minimal fees for the authors. The quality of the published articles will be assured by a fast yet rigorous peer-review process. The editors will usually reject papers outside the scope of the journal with an immediate decision. Authors who wish to withdraw their manuscript (at any stage of the process) should contact the editorial board. Biointerface Research in Applied Chemistry is published as an online journal, distinguishing between different types of publications: reviews, which are expected to produce a coherent argument about a topic or a focused description of a field, full articles presented as comprehensive reports on original research of the highest quality and short communications, which should be concise, usually no longer than 2500 words and not intended to publish preliminary results, but an independent report representing a significant contribution to the field of interest. Short communications are also send to peer review. For reviews and full articles there will be no page restrictions in place. Our editorial policy inquires that all submitted papers should be complete in themselves and adequately supported by experimental details. We are looking forward to receiving some of your very best manuscripts for publication in Biointerface Research in Applied Chemistry and to participate to an increased international dissemination of scientific information in fully-searchable electronic formats.
