The German Journal of Microbiology; towards dissemination and globalization of microbiology research

The emergence and re-emergence of diseases pose serious challenges to the global community, giving a wake-up call for the entire scientific community to collaborate to understand the nature of microorganisms and control pathogens that threaten humans, animals, and the ecosystem. Dissemination and globalization of scientific research in microbiology contribute to scientific community development and subsequently to scientific progress. Therefore, it is a privilege to announce the birth of the "German Journal of Microbiology, an open-access journal to publish different research articles pertained to microbiology. To empower the disclosure of scientific information, the payment capability will not be a barrier for the publication of excellent works; therefore, a complete or partial waiver may be provided upon request

The German Journal of Veterinary Research-A platform for veterinary medicine and One-Health

Animal health is the fundamental pre-requisite to secure global food safety and public health. Infectious animal diseases distress societies and damage international trade, and they continue to emerge and re-emerge. Research in veterinary science traditionally focuses on epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, control, vaccine development and animal welfare. A better understanding of animal disease's nature will improve livestock health and productivity and contribute to the various efforts to foster human health. Thus, collaborative research across countries, agencies, and institutions should be supported by generous funds, a liberal legal framework, and disseminating research results globally

Antaios: a mythical and symbolic Hermeneutics

The aim of my research is to define the Religious Hermeneutics that can be identified as the specific core of Antaios (1959-1971), the German journal directed by the historian of religions Mircea Eliade and the writer and philosopher Ernst Jünger. We’ll focus on the philosophical-religious interpretation of Antaios contents: the so called “mythical-symbolic hermeneutics” is probably the most interesting theoretical theme connected to the Weltanschauung of Antaios. This cultural journal could embodies a counter-philosophical perspective that is at the same time intrinsic to Western speculation. This position has been repeatedly emerged in many phases of our cultural history. I am referring to a mythical-symbolic thought, characterized by an analogical interpretation of the world, whose structure is considered as a stratification of truth levels, that are complementary ontological levels of reality. This tradition sees reality as a specific kind of totality that allows human perception to take place through the structures of myth and symbols. The theoretical unity of the project is rooted in the mythical-symbolic tradition that, starting from the religious and esoteric pre-philosophical meditations, crosses the Platonic thought, the various neoplatonisms, passes through medieval mysticism and alchemy, reappears in Romanticism and is revealed in the twentieth century by the reflections of the “thinkers of Tradition”. With this paper I would like to communicate the main topics that from this Hermeneutics can be identified: speculations about symbol, myth, coincidentia oppositorum (coincidence of opposites), archetypes, ontological pluralism are at the core of this paradigm.

Suicidal Carbon Monoxide Poisoning by Formic and Sulfuric Acids

In 1987, a case report was published in the German journal Archiv für Kriminologie describing an apparently novel method of suicide in which the decedent produced a lethal amount of carbon monoxide by mixing formic acid and sulfuric acid. This method of chemical suicide remained obscure until 2003, when Dr. Philip Nitschke, a vocal supporter of assisted suicide, began promoting a homemade carbon monoxide generator which utilized this same chemical reaction. In 2006, he coauthored The Peaceful Pill Handbook, which provided further details about how the device worked. Pro-voluntary euthanasia organizations and online forums continue to provide information about this method, promoting it as painless and efficient. There have been nine case reports of suicides and attempted suicides using this chemical reaction, with five reported in Europe, three in the United States, and one in Taiwan. Two additional cases were reported in news articles that did not correspond to known case reports, indicating that this method of suicide is more common than the scientific literature would suggest. We present the case of a 44-year-old male who learned about this method of chemical suicide online and filmed the suicidal act while verbally recording carbon monoxide levels prior to losing consciousness.
