The new species Ikaeria serusiauxii (Teloschistaceae, lichenized Ascomycetes) is described from the Madeira Archipelago, Canary Islands and continental Portugal. It is a crustose lichen on twigs and branches of trees and shrubs in xerophytic maritime vegetation. Superficially it is similar to Caloplaca cerina and C. haematites, from which it differs by the often black apothecium margin, very thick spore septa, black pycnidium ostioles, and the presence of the pigment Cinereorufa-green instead of Sedifolia-grey. ITS sequences suggest Ikaeria aurantiellina (syn. Caloplaca aegatica) as the closest relative. Added is a preliminary lichen checklist for Porto Santo (Madeira Archipelago, Macaronesia).

AbstractTwo new corticolous species, Hafellia alisioae and H. gomerana (lichenized Ascomycetes, Physciaceae), collected from twigs of coastal shrubs on the Canary Islands are described. The new species are discussed in relation to other Hafellia species with similar characters. An overview and a key for 23 corticolous species of Hafellia with 2-celled ascospores is provided.

Ramalina alisiosae (Ramalinaceae), found on trees in the laurel forests of the Canary Islands is described as new to science. A description of the species is given together with notes on its chemistry, distribution, ecology, and taxonomy. Bayesian and Maximum Likelihood analyses of ITS sequences showed a close relation of the new species with R. implectens and R. farinacea. Morphological and anatomical differences with these related lichen taxa are discussed.

AbstractThe genus Folsomides Stach, 1922 is redefined and given a narrow definition based on a limited set of consistent morphological characters: Position and distribution of tergal macrosensilla, chaetotaxy of mouth region, tibiotarsi, ventral tube and furca. Eighteen new species are described from the Canary Islands: semiparvulus sp. n., xerophilus sp. n., vinosus sp. n., cumbrosus sp. n., unicus sp. n., terrus sp. n., pocosensillatus sp. n., nigrocellatus sp. n., teno sp. n., oromii sp. n., ononicolus sp. n., graminis sp. n., famarensis sp. n., pinicolus sp. n., intermedius sp. n., tonellus sp. n., supranubius sp. n. and analuisae sp. n. The following European/African species are redescribed: parvulus Stach, portucalensis Gama, angularis (Axelson), cf. petiti Delamare, lawrencei Gers & Deharveng, cf. zairensis Martynova, nanus Ellis and centralis (Denis). Highly discriminate species characters are found in maxillary palp, tibiotarsal chaetotaxy and distribution of tergal microsensilla. A number of species are removed from Folsomides, and Subisotoma Stach, 1947 is given generic rank.

Xylaria fusispora, an undescribed species of Xylaria (Xylariales, Xylariaceae), is described and illustrated as a new species based on collections from Guizhou Province, China. Both morphology and phylogenetic analysis of nrDNA ITS sequences support the establishment of this new species. The fungus is characterized by its fusoid-equilateral ascospores and an ascus apical ring not bluing in Melzer’s reagent. The differences between the new species and the related fungi are discussed.

Bryoria is one of the most common lichen genera in the Hengduan Mountains; however, due to only preliminary studies in China, species delimitations are poorly known. In this study, thousands of specimens from this region were examined, combined with morphological and chemical characters as well as phylogeny of ITS sequences. Four species of Bryoria are described as new to science: B. barbata, B. fruticulosa, B. wuii and B. yunnana. Consequently, the number of Bryoria species known from this area is increased to 24. Detailed descriptions of the new species and a key to all the known Chinese species are provided.

Lava tubes in the Canary Islands have shown to have a great amount of endemic biodiversity belonging to a wide, and sometimes unexpected, range of taxa. In this paper, the first cave-dwelling species of a troglomorphic Dipsocoromorpha, Ceratocombus stysi sp. nov. is described making this finding the first named species of Dipsocoromorpha from the Canary Islands. Morphological information including diagnosis and genitalia description of the new species, together with biological and ecological notes are given.

Abstract A complete and up-to-date checklist of the vascular plants of Macaronesia (the Azores, the Madeira archipelago, the Salvage Islands, the Canary Islands, and the Cape Verde Islands) is given. 3.125 species belonging to 1.041 genera are listed, as are also a number of intraspecific taxa down to variety level. New combinations are proposed within the genera Cheilanthes, Pericallis and Pulicaria. A second section lists 2.250 synonyms and their presumed identity.
