scholarly journals A Virtual Switching Model for Improvemnent of Call Quality in Integrated Communication System

Poor voice quality in VoIP models during communication has been a common occurrence which VoIP users experience, this can be frustrating when users cannot communicate efficiently. Most people find it difficult to think straight when they make calls and there is an echo. In addition to this frustration, the caller’s money, time, effort, energy is all wasted without compensation of any kind. Users are also frustrated by not receiving, transmitting or misunderstanding voice messages correctly. Given the need for voice quality in calls, it is of no importance when there is no proper communication. This study aims to reduce the threat of bad calls and improve the quality of voice calls. Nonetheless, we need to raise the filter duration to a high value in some real telecom’s environments with long echo delays. But, because of high computational complexity, it is not efficient in efficiency. In this study, we suggest a solution that uses a computational formula to compensate long echo, delay, packet loss, jitter and noise. The model designed was developed using MATLAB 2019b. This approach demonstrated productivity in terms of both voice quality and system speed.

AbstractBackground:The diagnosis and treatment of unilateral vocal fold palsy is a common part of otolaryngology practice. In those patients in whom resolution of symptoms is slow, the resulting dysphonia can have a dramatic effect on the patient's quality of voice and life. We have previously described the procedure of direct phonoplasty under local anaesthesia using the transnasal laryngoesophagoscope.Objective:To examine the subjective and objective data for the first five patients to undergo this procedure, in the form of laryngographic speech analysis, perceptual assessment and therapy outcome measures.Results:Analysis showed a statistically significant improvement in voice quality, in all the above assessment categories, following local anaesthetic direct phonoplasty using the transnasal laryngoesophagoscope.Conclusion:Collagen injection via transnasal flexible laryngoesophagoscopy is a particularly useful technique for treating vocal fold medialisation, especially in palliative care patients and those with shortened life expectancy.

Factors like network delay, latency and bandwidth significantly affect the quality of communication using Voice over Internet Protocol. The use of jitter buffer at the receiving end compensates the effect of varying network delay up to some extent. But the extra buffer delay given for each packet plays a major role in playing late packets and thereby improving voice quality. As the buffer delay increases packet loss rate decreases, which in general is a very good sign. However, an increase of buffer delay beyond a certain limit affects the interactive quality of voice communication. In this paper, we propose a statistical framework for adaptive playout scheduling of voice packets based on network statistics, packet loss rate and availability of packets in the buffer. Experimental results show that the proposed model allocates optimal buffer delay with the lowest packet loss rate when compared with other algorithms.

Background: Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) has emerged as one of the most significant technology in the field of communication and evolved as a substitute to the conventional communication method as the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). Along with the advantages such as scalability and security, VoIP has some threats such as voice quality and interference that must be dealt with. The voice quality in VoIP is degraded when transmitted over a computer network due to delay, jitter and packet loss etc. Packet loss is one of major reasons for the signal quality degradation. Objective: In this research article, Quadrature Mirror Filter Bank (QMF) has been implemented in wireless VoIP system to enhance the quality of the signals transmitted. Results: The performance has been evaluated under varying network conditions of packet loss. Conclusion: Significant improvement has been observed in the quality of VoIP signal.

Background: Vocal polyps are the products of voice overuse, misuse and abuse as the most common causative factors. Treatment generally advised for them are voice therapy and Microlaryngeal Phonosurgery (MLPS). The improved or changed quality of voice is generally assessed perceptually and can cause intra rater variability. In this study we compared and analysed the acoustic characteristics before and after MLPS. Objective: The purpose of the study was to acoustically determine the changes in voice quality of a group of patients before and after the surgery. Material and methods: The following patients group were studied prior to and in between 3 and 4 weeks of surgery. Altogether there were 23 patients with either unilateral or bilateral vocal polyps. Voice recording and analysis were performed with Dr. Speech acoustic software (Tiger electronics, USA). The parameters analyzed were in terms of perturbation (Jitter and shimmer), harmonic-to-noise ratio (HNR) and fundamental frequency (F0). Results: The results showed that shimmer, HNR and F0 decreased significantly (p<0.05) following MLPS, but jitter though reduced, was not statistically significant (p=0.694). Conclusion: The acoustic output generally improved after MLPS as evidenced by decreased values of all the four acoustic parameters. The study also stress that voice quality can be improved through the phonosurgical procedures. This multidimensional voice analysis can be very helpful in our ability to provide objective clinical analysis of voices with vocal polyps, and following their surgical treatment. PurposeAlthough there is a long history of use of semi-occluded vocal tract gestures in voice therapy, including phonation through thin tubes or straws, the efficacy of phonation through tubes has not been established. This study compares results from a therapy program on the basis of phonation through a flow-resistant tube (FRT) with Vocal Function Exercises (VFE), an established set of exercises that utilize oral semi-occlusions.MethodTwenty subjects (16 women, 4 men) with dysphonia and/or vocal fatigue were randomly assigned to 1 of 4 treatment conditions: (a) immediate FRT therapy, (b) immediate VFE therapy, (c) delayed FRT therapy, or (d) delayed VFE therapy. Subjects receiving delayed therapy served as a no-treatment control group.ResultsVoice Handicap Index (Jacobson et al., 1997) scores showed significant improvement for both treatment groups relative to the no-treatment group. Comparison of the effect sizes suggests FRT therapy is noninferior to VFE in terms of reduction in Voice Handicap Index scores. Significant reductions in Roughness on the Consensus Auditory-Perceptual Evaluation of Voice (Kempster, Gerratt, Verdolini Abbott, Barkmeier-Kraemer, & Hillman, 2009) were found for the FRT subjects, with no other significant voice quality findings.ConclusionsVFE and FRT therapy may improve voice quality of life in some individuals with dysphonia. FRT therapy was noninferior to VFE in improving voice quality of life in this study.

We investigated how standard speech coders, currently used in modern communication systems, affect the quality of the speech of persons who have common speech and voice disorders. Three standardized speech coders (GSM 6.10 RPELTP, FS1016 CELP, and FS1015 LPC) and two speech coders based on subband processing were evaluated for their performance. Coder effects were assessed by measuring the quality of speech samples both before and after processing by the speech coders. Speech quality was rated by 10 listeners with normal hearing on 28 different scales representing pitch and loudness changes, speech rate, laryngeal and resonatory dysfunction, and coder-induced distortions. Results showed that (a) nine scale items were consistently and reliably rated by the listeners; (b) all coders degraded speech quality on these nine scales, with the GSM and CELP coders providing the better quality speech; and (c) interactions between coders and individual voices did occur on several voice quality scales.
