As a critical component of the sugarcane harvester, the primary function of the crop dividers is to lift the lodged sugarcane (LS) and reduce the loss rate of the sugarcane harvest. In this study, a rigid-flexible coupling simulation method is proposed to improve the lifting efficiency of the crop dividers on severely LS and analyze the nature of interaction between the sugarcane stalk and the crop dividers. The model’s accuracy was verified using field experiments, and the operational performance of the crop dividers on sugarcane in different lodging postures was investigated. The results showed that the curve of the vertical height of the center (VHC) fluctuated more and slipped with highest frequency during the lifting process of side and forward LS. The speed of VHC was fastest during the lifting operation of side LS. The effect of side angle on the lifting effect of sugarcane was significant; the qualified values of the VHC of sugarcane being lifted in different lodged postures were: side and reverse lodged > side lodged > side and forward lodged. The coupling method and experimental results described in this paper can provide guidance for the optimal design and field operation of the crop dividers.

Abstract By using the Particle-In-Cell(PIC) simulation method, we study how the proton beam is confined in a bent magnetic mirror. It is found that the loss rate of the charged particles in a bent mirror is less than that in the axi-symmetric mirror. For a special bent mirror with the deflection angle of the coils $\alpha=45^{\circ}$, it is found that the loss rate reaches maximum value at certain ion number density where the ion electrostatic oscillation frequency is equal to the ion cyclotron frequency. In addition, the loss rate is irrelevant to the direction of the proton beam. Our results may be helpful to devise a mirror. In order to obtain the least loss rate, we may choose a appropriate deflection angle, and have to avoid a certain ion number density at which the ion electrostatic oscillation frequency is equal to the ion cyclotron frequency.

Rate parameters are critical in estimating the covid burden using mathematical models. In the Covid-19 mathematical models, these parameters are assumed to be constant. However, uncertainties in these rate parameters are almost inevitable. In this paper, we study a stochastic epidemic model of the SARS-CoV-2 virus infection in the presence of vaccination in which some parameters fluctuate around its average value. Our analysis shows that if the stochastic basic reproduction number (SBRN) of the system is greater than unity, then there is a stationary distribution, implying the long-time disease persistence. A sufficient condition for disease eradication is also prescribed for which the exposed class goes extinct, followed by the infected class. The disease eradication criterion may not hold if the rate of vaccine-induced immunity loss increases or/and the force of infection increases. Using the Indian Covid-19 data, we estimated the model parameters and showed the future disease progression in the presence of vaccination. The disease extinction time is estimated under various conditions. It is revealed that the mean extinction time is an increasing function of both the force of infection and immunity loss rate and shows the lognormal distribution. We point out that disease eradication might not be possible even at a higher vaccination rate if the vaccine-induced immunity loss rate is high. Our observation thus indicates the endemicity of the disease for the existing vaccine efficacy. The disease eradication is possible only with a higher vaccine efficacy or a reduced infection rate.

The semi-solid extruded CuSn10P1 alloy bushings were homogenization annealed. The effects of annealing process on the hardness and wear properties of bushings were researched. The results show the Brinell hardness increases firstly and then decreases with the increase of annealing temperature and annealing time. With the annealing temperature increasing, the grinding loss rate and friction factor decrease firstly and then increase. At the annealing time of 120 min, the grinding loss rate decreases from 7% at the annealing temperature of 450 °C to 6% at 500 °C, and then increases from 6% at 500 °C to 12% at 600 °C. The friction factor decreases from 0.54 to 0.48 and then increases to 0.83. At the annealing temperature of 500 °C, the grinding loss rate decreases from 11% at the annealing time of 60 min to 6% at 120 min, and then increases to 15% at 150 min. The friction factor decreases from 0.67 to 0.48 and then increases to 0.72. The best wear performance and Brinell hardness can be obtained at annealing temperature of 500 °C for 120 min.

Recent studies have reported that meal timing may play an important role in weight regulation, however it is unknown whether the timing of meals is related to the amount of weight loss. This study aimed to examine the relationship between indices of meal timing and weight loss during weight loss intervention in adults. A 12-week weight loss support program was conducted for 97 adults (age: 47.6 ± 8.3 years, BMI: 25.4 ± 3.7 kg/m2). After the program, body weight decreased by −3.0 ± 2.7%. Only the start of the eating window was positively correlated with the weight change rate in both sexes (men: r = 0.321, p = 0.022; women: r = 0.360, p = 0.014). The participants were divided into two groups based on the start of the eating window as follows: the early group (6:48 ± 0:21 AM) and the late group (8:11 ± 1:05 AM). The weight loss rate in the early group was significantly higher (−3.8 ± 2.7%) than that in the late group (−2.2 ± 2.5%). The present results showed that the start of the early eating window was associated with weight loss and suggested paying attention to meal timing when doing weight loss.

Flash-flood disasters pose a serious threat to lives and property. To meet the increasing demand for refined and rapid assessment on flood loss, this study exploits geomatic technology to integrate multi-source heterogeneous data and put forward the comprehensive risk index (CRI) calculation with the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation (FCE). Based on mathematical correlations between CRIs and actual losses of flood disasters in Weifang City, the direct economic loss rate (DELR) model and the agricultural economic loss rate (AELR) model were developed. The case study shows that the CRI system can accurately reflect the risk level of a flash-flood disaster. Both models are capable of simulating disaster impacts. The results are generally consistent with actual impacts. The quantified economic losses generated from simulation are close to actual losses. The spatial resolution is up to 100 × 100 m. This study provides a loss assessment method with high temporal and spatial resolution, which can quickly assess the loss of rainstorm and flood disasters. The method proposed in this paper, coupled with a case study, provides a reliable reference to loss assessment on flash floods caused disasters and will be helpful to the existing literature.

A pipe is a ubiquitous product in the industries that is used to convey liquids, gases, or solids suspended in a liquid, e.g., a slurry, from one location to another. Both internal and external cracking can result in structural failure of the industrial piping system and possibly decrease the service life of the equipment. The chaos and complexity associated with the uncertain behaviour inherent in pipeline systems lead to difficulty in detection and localisation of leaks in real time. The timely detection of leakage is important in order to reduce the loss rate and serious environmental consequences. The objective of this paper is to propose a new leak detection method based on an autoregressive with exogenous input (ARX) Laguerre fuzzy proportional-integral-derivative (PID) observation system. The objective of this paper is to propose a new leak detection method based on an autoregressive with exogenous input (ARX) Laguerre fuzzy proportional-integral-derivative (PID) observation system. In this work, the ARX–Laguerre model has been used to generate better performance in the presence of uncertainty. According to the results, the proposed technique can detect leaks accurately and effectively.

The effect of bentonite (BT) on the structure and performance of sodium alginate (SA) as microsphere carrier of essential oil is studied. The addition of BT can improve the performance of alginate gel microspheres through the study of the properties of single carrier SA and composite carrier SA/BT. The experimental results show that the viscosity of composite carrier SA/BT solution is higher than that of carrier SA solution, and the increasing rate of viscosity of composite solution with temperature is less than that of SA. The addition of BT can effectively inhibit the swelling of SA microspheres. The hydrogen bonding between SA and BT is shown in FTIR, and the interlayer spacing of BT crystal structure is not changed in XRD analysis. The mass loss rate of SA/BT microspheres is lower than that of SA in TGA analysis. The more dense structure of SA/BT microspheres than that of SA microspheres is confirmed by SEM. The release rate of cinnamon oil in SA/BT gel microspheres is significantly lower than that in SA gel microspheres under different temperature conditions. The addition of BT could better control the volatilization of essential oil encapsulated in SA gel microspheres.

In the photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing process, cell-to-module (CTM) loss is inevitably caused by the optical loss, and it generally leads to the output power loss of about 2~3%. It is known that the CTM loss rate can be reduced by increasing the reflectance of a backsheet and reflective area through widening spaces between the PV cell strings. In this study, multi-busbars (MBB) and shingled PV cells were connected in series, and a mini-module composed of four cells was fabricated with a white and black backsheet to investigate the effects of reflectance of backsheets and space between the PV cells. Moreover, the MBB modules with cell gap spaces of 0.5 mm, 1.5 mm, and 2.5 mm were demonstrated with fixed 3 mm spaces between the strings. The shingled modules with varying spaces from 2 mm to 6 mm were also tested, and our results show that spacing between PV cells and strings should be well-balanced to minimize the CTM loss to maximize the output power (efficiency).

Abstract We present panchromatic observations and modeling of supernova (SN) 2020tlf, the first normal Type II-P/L SN with confirmed precursor emission, as detected by the Young Supernova Experiment transient survey. Pre-SN activity was detected in riz-bands at −130 days and persisted at relatively constant flux until first light. Soon after discovery, “flash” spectroscopy of SN 2020tlf revealed narrow, symmetric emission lines that resulted from the photoionization of circumstellar material (CSM) shed in progenitor mass-loss episodes before explosion. Surprisingly, this novel display of pre-SN emission and associated mass loss occurred in a red supergiant (RSG) progenitor with zero-age main-sequence mass of only 10–12 M ⊙, as inferred from nebular spectra. Modeling of the light curve and multi-epoch spectra with the non-LTE radiative-transfer code CMFGEN and radiation-hydrodynamical code HERACLES suggests a dense CSM limited to r ≈ 1015 cm, and mass-loss rate of 10−2 M ⊙ yr−1. The luminous light-curve plateau and persistent blue excess indicates an extended progenitor, compatible with an RSG model with R ⋆ = 1100 R ⊙. Limits on the shock-powered X-ray and radio luminosity are consistent with model conclusions and suggest a CSM density of ρ < 2 × 10−16 g cm−3 for distances from the progenitor star of r ≈ 5 × 1015 cm, as well as a mass-loss rate of M ̇ < 1.3 × 10 − 5 M ☉ yr − 1 at larger distances. A promising power source for the observed precursor emission is the ejection of stellar material following energy disposition into the stellar envelope as a result of gravity waves emitted during either neon/oxygen burning or a nuclear flash from silicon combustion.
