Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh aplikasi bakteri endofit potensial dan pupuk terhadap penyakit layu daun dan busuk buah oleh bakteri Pseudomonas solanacearum. Dua bakteri endofit terseleksi (HL.39B.86 dan HL. 39B.88) digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk diaplikasikan pada tanaman tomat. Proses fermentasi dilakukan dalam 2 macam medium cair untuk mencari pola pertumbuhan yang maksimal. Percobaan dilakukan dalam  2 unit percobaan. Percobaan I.Menguji 10 isolat bakteri endofit terhadap serangan penyakit layu pada tanaman tomat dan cabe, percobaan II.Mengaplikasi senyawa aktif bakteri potensial terhadap penyakit layu dan busuk buah pada tanaman tomat   Hasil analisis KLT menunjukkan bahwa kedua bakteri tersebut menghasilkan senyawa aktif, dengan melihat  noda (spot) pada kertas KLT. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bakteri endofit HL.39B.86 dan HL. 39B.88 mampu menahan dan memproteksi serangan penyakit layu dari bakteri P. Solanacearum pada tanaman tomat. Pemberian pupuk N dan K nyata meningkatkan bobot buah tomat, tetapi tidak nyata meningkatkan bobot biomas, tinggi tanaman, dan lebar kanopi tomat.

Dados obtidos em experimentos realizados durante a década 83/92 pelo Programa de Melhoramento Genético do Tomateiro foram utilizados para avaliar a eficiência da utilização do parâmetro epidemiológico Taxa de Infecçâo para seleção de progênies resistentes ao patógeno Pseudomonas solanacearum. Foram obtidas evidências que as progênies selecionadas de uma geração para a seguinte apresentaram níveis crescentes de resistência e maior capacidade produtiva sob condição de cultivo em solos infestados pelo patógeno, usando-se como padrões de susceptibilidade variedades do grupo Santa Cruz e de resistência a variedade Caraiba. A Taxa de Infecção consegue detectar elevado número de contrastes significativos quando comparada com outros parâmetros que não consideram a resistência como resultante de um processo na qual a expressão é modificada com o tempo.

Seven tomato Lycopersicon esculentum lines, `Venus', `Saturn', `Rodade', `Rotam 4', `Hawaii 7998', `UC-82B', and `Stevens', and their 21 crosses were evaluated for their ability to resist infection by seven virulent strains of Pseudomonas solanacearum E.F. Sm. representing race 1 biovars 1 and 3. The Gardner and Eberhart model III analysis was used to evaluate the response of lines in crosses to P. solunaceurum infection. General combining ability mean squares were significant for all strains and in 5 of 7 instances specific combining ability mean squares were significant. In four instances the parent vs. cross contrast was significant. `Hawaii 7998' was resistant to all seven strains of P. solanacearum, whereas `Rotam 4' and `Rodade' were resistant to biovar 3 and two races of biovar 1. `Venus' and `Saturn' were resistant to two other biovar 1 strains. `Hawaii 7998' transmitted greater resistance than the other resistant parents, but its small fruit size and indeterminate growth habit make it a poor choice for a hybrid parent.
