A viaduct of the Qinglai expressway fourth contract was artificial excavated piles. The construction technical work was regarded as an example. The technical comparison were done between the artificial excavated pile and the bored pile on the pile foundation bearing capacity and the retaining wall effect . The artificial excavated pile replacing the bored pile was feasible, and the construction technology and the key problems of the artificial excavated piles were confirmed. The references were provided to the similar projects.

The bearing capacity characteristics and side friction characters of post-grouting pile were studied in the static load test which included two piles with post-grouting or not. When the pile head settlements were same, the loads applied on the pile top were used to analyze the bearing properties of post-grouting pile. We got the ultimate side friction of post-grouting pile after fitting test curves of relations between friction resistance and displacement. The tests indicate that both the bearing capacity characteristics and side friction of post-grouting pile are increased in various degrees.

Through field static load test and pile shaft axial force test, field testing study is conducted on bearing behavior of NAKS-construction-method belled large-diameter PHC pipe pile; besides, the test result is compared with that of hammering-method PHC pipe pile and bored pile with same pile length and diameter under the same site condition. The result shows that the ultimate bearing capacity of NAKS-construction-method belled large-diameter PHC pipe pile is slightly inferior to hammering-method PHC pipe pile but obviously superior to that of bored pile. Compared with traditional hammering-method pipe pile, the pile side resistance of NAKS-construction-method belled pipe pile is smaller; however, the higher toe resistance will give better play to bearing capacity of bearing stratum of pile toe; moreover, it is found that under the action of ultimate load and failure load, the maximum settlement and final settlement of NAKS-construction-method belled pipe pile tip are obviously lower than that of other test piles, which is conductive to lessening foundation settlement of upper structure.

Interaction peculiarities of a single unit bored pile with the surrounding rock mass under the horizontal load effect, as well as loss mechanism of piles bearing capacity, are considered. The article presents the numerical modeling results and a method developed on their basis for calculating piles in rocky soils under the horizontal load effect under the spatial elastic-plastic problem conditions, with the account of the contact behavior between the pile and the rock mass. The study of the single unit bored pile interaction and the surrounding rock mass under the horizontal and moment loads effect was carried out based on the numerical models’ analysis of the piles and the surrounding rock mass in a spatial setting using the finite element method. The use of regression analysis methods made it possible, to obtain parametric equations, based on the numerical modeling obtained results, that connected the studied response functions (bearing capacity and horizontal displacement of the pile) from preselected independent factors reflecting the geomechanical properties of the body and the design piles peculiarities. The developed calculation method allows at the preliminary design stage to estimate the horizontal pile displacement value, as well as its bearing capacity. Also, using the proposed technique, it is possible to make a piles load test schedule, which can be used in the field observation preparation at the design stage. The relevance of the topic is due to the fact that in modern construction practice, bored piles are used to transfer to the foundation significant loads, on the rock foundation from structures for various purposes, including transport (bridges and overpasses piers’ foundations, etc.).
