Peniculus asinus, a new species of copepod parasitic on Sebastes (Pisces: Teleostei) off the Pacific coast of Canada is described and illustrated. The copepod is an unique member of its genus in that it possesses cephalothoracic holdfast processes. The discovery of a Peniculus with these processes is taken as evidence confirming the place of this genus in the family Pennellidae.

My last general paper on Florida Coleoptera was prepared in the autumn of 1924, and appeared in the Canadian Entomologist for July, 1925. Since that was written my time has been largely devoted to the final preparation and publication of the “Heteroptera of Eastern North America.” During the three years which have elapsed I have spent the winters at Dunedin on the west coast of Florida, but have made three additional collecting trips, of three or four weeks each, to Royal Palm Park. One of these was in December, the other two in March and April. This park comprises an area of 4,000 acres lying in extreme southern Florida, about 40 miles northeast of Cape Sable.

New portunoid fossils from southern Argentina and from the west coast of North America permit the reevaluation of the generic and family relationships within the Portunoidea Rafinesque, 1815. It has previously been suggested that the Portunidae and the Geryonidae Colosi, 1923, are closely related families (Manning and Holthuis, 1989). The new fossils suggest that the Geryonidae may in fact be derived from a portunid progenitor,ProterocarcinusFeldmann, Casadío, Chirino-Gálvez, and Aguirre Urreta, 1995, through a process of peramorphosis in which juveniles of the geryonid speciesChaceon peruvianus(d'Orbigny, 1842) resemble adults ofProterocarcinus latus(Glaessner, 1933). Examination of several genera within the portunid subfamily Polybiinae Ortmann, 1893, includingImaizumilaKarasawa, 1993;Megokkosnew genus;MinohellenusKarasawa, 1990;PororariaGlaessner, 1980;PortunitesBell, 1858; andProterocarcinus,suggests that the subfamily had an amphitropical distribution early in its history. New taxa reported here includeMegokkosnew genus andPortunites nodosusnew species. New combinations includeChaceon peruvianus(d'Orbigny, 1842),Imaizumila araucana(Philippi, 1887),Megokkos alaskensis(Rathbun, 1926),Megokkos hexagonalis(Nagao, 1932),Megokkos macrospinus(Schweitzer, Feldmann, Tucker, and Berglund, 2000),Minohellenus triangulum(Rathbun, 1926), andProterocarcinus latus(Glaessner, 1933).

Occigamasus n. gen., O. lindquisti n. sp. and O. makarovae n. sp. from Vancouver Island (Canada) and Oregon (U.S.A.) are described. Five other new species and their sites are noted but not enough specimens were available for adequate descriptions. Cycetogamasus californicus (Banks) sensu Hennessey and Farrier, 1988 is transferred to Occigamasus as a new combination.

This study is a revision of the poorly known genus Pseudochitinopoma Zibrowius, 1969 (Annelida, Serpulidae), erected for Hyalopomatopsis occidentalis Bush, 1905 from the West Coast of North America. Subsequently, an unnamed Pseudochitinopoma sp. nov. from the Seychelles (ten Hove 1994) (described herein as P. amirantensis sp. nov.) and P. pavimentata Nishi, 1999 were added to the genus. Ficopomatus capensis Day, 1961 is herein referred to Pseudochitinopoma, based on examination of the type material. Finally, Pseudochitinopoma beneliahuae sp. nov. was described from Western Australia and the Red Sea. Reproductive patterns and phylogenetic affinities of Pseudochitinopoma spp. are discussed.

Two new brachyuran species are described for the Upper Cretaceous Mexcala Formation, Guerrero State, Mexico. Longusorbis quadratus new species (Coniacian, Temalac region) is the oldest and southernmost record for the genus. Xanthosia zoquiapensis new species (Campanian, Zoquiapa region) is the first record for the genus in Mexico. In addition, the age for Costacopluma bishopi Vega and Feldmann is discussed (Coniacian, Temalac region) and represents the oldest and southernmost record for Cretaceous representatives of this genus in North America. All specimens are considerably smaller compared to other species of the same genera and are interpreted as the first example of brachyuran dwarfism in the geological record. These species add new insight into possible migratory routes during the Late Cretaceous. Within Longusorbis, a northwestern migratory route is documented from the Coniacian in Mexico to the Campanian - Maastrichtian of the west coast of North America (Canada), whereas within the genus Xanthosia, a western migratory route from the Albian of Europe to the Campanian of Mexico is indicated. Costacopluma migrated east and north to the west coast of Africa, southeast North America and Greenland.

A list is given of 175 species of Polychaeta collected at the northern extremity of the west coast of North America; seven of the species are new to the entire coast, 29 to the northern extremity, and four new to science.Notes are given on distribution and taxonomic characters of many of the known forms and the new species are described.

I present the systematics and distribution of five new species of oribatid mites in the genus Ceratoppia (Oribatida: Peloppiidae) from western North America. The species are described on the basis of adult morphology using the following character states: number of hypostomal setae, number, length and expression of posterior notogastral setae, length of lamellae and lamellar cusp, length of interlamellar setae, and the shape and dentition of the rostrum. Ceratoppia indentata n. sp. is described from forest floor habitats, while Ceratoppia longicuspis n. sp. and Ceratoppia tofinoensis n. sp. are described from arboreal bryosphere habitats; Ceratoppia offarostrata n. sp. is associated with bark habitats. Ceratoppia valerieae n. sp. was collected from both arboreal and forest floor samples. Distributions of all species are provided based on museum and collection records; C. indentata, C. longicuspis, C. tofinoensis are recorded from coastal temperate coniferous rainforests of the Pacific Northwest of North America, while C. valerieae was found in coastal temperate rainforests and extending along the southern border of British Columbia into eastern Alberta. Ceratoppia offarostrata is collected only from a small number of locations on the west coast of Canada. Comments on other North American Ceratoppia species is given. A morphological key is presented to the described adult species for the genus Ceratoppia in North America.

Twenty three enteropneust species have been described from the west coast of North America, including one species from the family Ptychoderidae, Glossobalanus berkeleyi from the Salish Sea, Vancouver Island. Here we use morphology to describe three additional species of acorn worms in the genus Glossobalanus: G. williami from Cape Arago, Oregon; G. hartmanae and G. barnharti fromLa Jolla,California. Notes on the habit and localization of each species as well as a dichotomous key to the genera of the family Ptychoderidae are provided.
