A new species group, the riverata species group, is established within the genus Scaptodrosophila based on morphological and molecular evidence for five known and five new species from China: S. abdentatasp. nov., S. cederholmi (Okada, 1988), S. crocata (Bock, 1976), S. paraclubata (Sundaran & Gupta, 1991), S. platyrhinasp. nov., S. puncticeps (Okada, 1956), S. riverata (Singh & Gupta, 1977), S. serrateifoliaceasp. nov., S. sinuatasp. nov. and S. tanyrhinasp. nov. A key to this group is provided. Furthermore, 51 mtDNA COI sequences belonging to S. puncticeps, S. riverata and the five new species are used for verifying species boundaries defined by the morphological data.

The genus Minuartia is represented in Turkey by 34 taxa. Some interesting specimens were collected from Antalya province, and examined. These specimens resemble Minuartia meyeri, and M. multinervis from which differ by characters (macro-, and micromorphological) of inflorescence, alar pedicels, petals, sepals, capsules and seeds. Moreover, by using the DNA sequences of the ITS genes, phylogenetic relationships between this collected species, and the related species were investigated. As a result of the evaluation of molecular, and morphological data, we proposed to described the population from Antalya as a new species for the science. A description, pictures, distribution, habitat, and IUCN category are given.

A new species of the genus Panolis Hübner, [1821], P. xundian sp. nov., is described and illustrated from southwestern China. It is well-defined morphologically by the male genitalia, with a well-developed pollex at the distal terminal of the sacculus and a broad, ventrally concave cucullus, the female corpus bursae with four long signum-stripes. Based on a 658 bp segment of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene, we report the pairwise genetic distance of 2.5% from its allied species P. exquisita Draudt, 1950. Molecular phylogenetic analyses using three genes (2189 bp in total length) indicate that the new species belongs to the P. exquisita species group.

A new species of Gonatocerus Nees (Mymaridae) is described from the states of San Luis Potosí and Tamaulipas in Mexico, with additional records from Argentina and Peru. Type specimens of G. uat S. Triapitsyn sp. n. were reared in Mexico from the eggs of proconiine sharpshooters (Cicadellidae: Cicadellinae: Proconiini) in the genera Homalodisca Stål and Oncometopia Stål. Taxonomic and molecular evidence from five gene regions (28S-D2, ITS1, ITS2, COI, COII) is provided to help differentiate the new species from the morphologically similar taxon, G. ashmeadi Girault, which also belongs to the ater species group of Gonatocerus.

Petrocodon asterocalyx F.Wen, Y.G.Wei & R.L.Zhang, a new species from the Danxia landform area in Guangxi, South China, is described and illustrated based on molecular and morphological data. The molecular evidence shows that the new species is recovered in a weakly supported clade. Within this clade, the new one is morphologically similar to P. hancei (Hemsl.) A.Weber & Mich.Möller and P. coriaceifolius (Y.G.Wei) Y.G.Wei & Mich.Möller, and it can be distinguished from the former by calyx lobes 20–40 × 2–3 mm, corolla 2.5–3.0 cm long, filaments sparsely erectly pubescent, anthers sparsely pubescent, staminodes 3, and stigmas 2; from latter by leaf blades rhombic-oblong or rhombic, base shallowly cuneate, margin crenulate to serrate, calyx lobes linear, 20–40 × 2–3 cm, and anthers 3.5–3.8 mm long, sparsely pubescent and elliptical.

Abstract Aegla lata Bond-Buckup & Buckup, 1994 is considered extinct in the type locality. New populations of this species, however, have been found in northern Paraná state, Brazil. We revised the taxonomy of A. lata based on morphological data obtained from the type material and specimens recently obtained from streams of the Tibagi River sub-basin, Paranapanema River basin, Upper Paraná Ecoregion. Moreover, Aegla jacutingan. sp. is described and illustrated. The new species resembles A. lata in the shapes of the body and chelipeds. Both species are nevertheless separated by particular morphological characters of the carapace, chelipeds, and epimeron as well as by molecular (COI mtDNA) differences. Both species can be distinguished from their congeners based on morphological and molecular evidence.

ABSTRACT A new species of Characidium from southeastern Brazil is described based on morphological and molecular evidence from specimens collected between the rio Jucuruçu and rio Doce basins. The new species belongs to a group of species within Characidium with an unscaled area in the isthmus and is distinguished from these species, except C. alipioi, C. fasciatum, C. hasemani, and C. kamakan, by the greater distance (greater than 10% SL) and presence of 5-7 scales between the anus and the anal fin, and presence of 14 series of scales around the caudal peduncle. The species is distinguished from C. alipioi by having 4 series of scales above the lateral line (vs. 5 series) and greater distance between the anus and the anal fin; from C. fasciatum and C. kamakan, by the smaller body depth at the dorsal-fin origin, at the anal-fin origin, and at the caudal peduncle; from C. hasemani, by the short distances between the tip of the snout and the pelvic fin, the tip of the snout and the anal fin, and the tip of the snout and the tip of anal fin. The new species forms a presumably monophyletic group with C. alipioi and C. kamakan.

Woodland salamanders of the genus Plethodon are characterized by strong ecological and morphological conservatism. One assemblage, the Wehrle’s salamander (Plethodon wehrlei Fowler & Dunn) species group, is distributed from New York to Tennessee, USA, and includes several morphological variants, four of which are sufficiently distinct to have been recognized as species in the past. For many years after two of these species were placed in synonymy, only P. wehrlei and P. punctatus Highton were recognized. A recent phylogeographic study using mitochondrial DNA and nuclear DNA uncovered considerable genetic diversity within the group and conservatively resurrected one of the previously synonymized forms (P. dixi Pope & Fowler). However, their analysis could not resolve all relationships among remaining populations of P. wehrlei, leaving the taxon paraphyletic. We re-evaluated the evolutionary history of this group using genomic data, recovered strong support for at least five distinct clades, and corroborated previously reported relationships. We also collected morphological data and demonstrated morphological distinctiveness for four of the five clades that we herein recognize as species. We resurrect the synonymized name P. jacksoni Newman to represent the southern clades of P. wehrlei in southwestern Virginia and North Carolina exclusive of P. dixi. In addition, we describe a yellow-spotted form of P. wehrlei endemic to the Cumberland Plateau as a new species. Although our proposed changes rectify the paraphyly of P. wehrlei, our sampling was not sufficient to resolve potential taxonomic issues remaining within the species herein recognized as P. jacksoni.

Neochauliodes van der Weele, 1909 is the largest genus of the subfamily Chauliodinae of the megalopteran family Corydalidae, currently with 47 described species. Here we report Neochauliodes triangulatus sp. nov. from western Yunnan, China. The new species belongs to the Neochauliodes bowringi species-group and is confirmed to be different from the other species of this group based on morphological and molecular evidence.

A new species of leafcutter bee, Megachile (Litomegachile) droegei Sheffield & Genaro, new species, is described from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.  Megachile droegei is one of 12 species in this New World subgenus, and is part of the M. brevis species group (with M. brevis Say, M. onobrychidis Cockerell, and M. pseudobrevis Mitchell).  This is the first record of the subgenus Litomegachile from the Antilles.  A diagnosis for distinguishing this species from other species of Litomegachile, and full descriptions of the female and male with illustrations are provided.  In addition, the male of M. pankus Bzdyk is described, and M. cleomis Cockerell is recognized as a valid species (new status) based on 1.45% divergence in COI (cytochrome c oxidase, subunit 1) from M. texana Cresson, and eastern (M. texana) /western (M. cleomis) distributions.  Based on morphological data and COI sequence data, four distinct species groups are recognized within Litomegachile.  Putative synapomorphies that support the monophyly of these groups are also discussed.RESUMEN: Se describe una especie nueva de abeja cortadora de hojas, Megachile (Litomegachile) droegei, para la Bahía de Guantánamo, Cuba.  Megachile droegei es una de las 12 especies pertenecientes al subgénero del Nuevo Mundo, Litomegachile y es parte del grupo de especies de M. brevis (junto a M. brevis Say, M. onobrychidis Cockerell y M. pseudobrevis Mitchell).  Este constituye el primer registro del subgénero Litomegachile para Las Antillas.  Se provee una diagnosis para separar a la especie nueva del resto de las especies del mismo subgénero, asícomo descripciones completas e ilustraciones de ambos sexos.  Además, se describe el macho de M. pankus Bzdyk y se reconoce M. cleomis Cockerell como una especie válida (nuevo estado) basado en una divergencia del COI (citocromo coxidasa, subunidad 1) de 1,45 %, respecto a las distribuciones con M. texana Cresson, y poblaciones del Este (M. texana) /Oeste (M. cleomis).  Basado en datos morfológicos y datos de la secuencia de COI, cuatro grupos de especies son reconocidos en Litomegachile.  Tambiense discuten posibles sinapormofias que apoyan la monofilia de estos grupos.

We perform a review of the Erythrolamprus reginae species group and putative related taxa (E. dorsocorallinus, E. zweifeli, and E. oligolepis), based on external morphology and hemipenial characters. We infer species boundaries among taxa traditionally associated with this group, recognizing two nominal subspecies (Erythrolamprus reginae reginae and E. r. macrosomus) in the species level. We propose the synonymy of E. r. semilineatus with E. reginae and recognize the validity of the related taxa, such as: E. dorsocorallinus, E. zweifeli, and E. oligolepis. In addition, two specimens occurring in the state Amapá, Brazil, are herein described as a new species. Therefore, we provide an identification key for the species of the group and discuss some of the combination of morphological features useful to delimitate the species of this group, in comparison with other representatives of the genus Erythrolamprus.
