Five species of Strongylogaster Dahlbom, 1835 are recorded from Zhejiang Province, China. They are four known species, S. formosana (Rohwer, 1916), S. macula (Klug, 1817), S. takeuchii Naito, 1980 and S. xanthocera (Stephens, 1835), and a new species. Strongylogaster tianmunica sp. nov., collected from Mt. Tianmu in Zhejiang Province, is here described and illustrated. This new species resembles S. nantouensis Naito, 1990, but differs from the latter by the following characters: female body length 10–12 mm, male body length 8–10 mm; tegula brown to dark brown; pronotum largely yellowish-white; trochanters black, apical half of hind femora and of hind tibiae yellowish-white; malar space as long as radius of median ocellus; antennomere 3 as long as antennomere 4; and ovipositor apical sheath with distinct lateral scapes. A key to the five species of Strongylogaster from Zhejiang Province is provided.

A new species of Kiotina, K. yexiaohani sp. nov. is described from Zhejiang Province of southeastern China. The male of the new species is characterized by the V-shaped epiproct sclerite with thick, out-curved arms and a fusiform base. The apical half of subgenital plate sub-trapezoidal with a slightly notched apex distinguishes the female of the new species. Information on the types and available descriptions of Chinese Kiotina species are summarized. Additionally, an unassociated female of a Kiotina species is described and illustrated.

Summary Aphelenchoides smolae n. sp. isolated in Ningbo Port, China, from medium soil and tissues of Lilium orientalis bulbs imported from The Netherlands, is described. It is characterised by the female body length of 826 (672-1002) μm and male body length of 785 (683-844) μm, lateral field with four lines (three bands), stylet 13.0-14.9 μm long with small basal swellings, excretory pore situated slightly posterior to nerve ring, vulval flap absent, post-vulval uterine sac well developed and extending for ca 35.7-62.4% of vulva to anus distance, conical tail with terminus bearing a single mucron with many tiny nodular protuberances under SEM, males common, with spicules 25.7-29.8 μm long (median curved line), the condylus and rostrum rounded, well developed, the dorsal limb with a hook-like tip, and tail bearing three pairs (2 + 2 + 2) of caudal papillae and a sharply pointed mucron. The new species belongs to the Group 2 category of Aphelenchoides species sensu Shahina. Phylogenetic analysis based on 18S, 28S D2-D3 of rDNA and COI mtDNA further characterised the new species.

AbstractA new species of the genus Cephalobus is described from natural areas in the south-eastern Iberian Peninsula. Cephalobus harpagonis sp. n. is characterised by female body length of 0.38-0.47 mm, lips amalgamated in pairs, labial probolae present as low ridges connecting tips of adjacent lips, ovary lacking flexures, spermatheca 11-12 μm long, postuterine sac very short (0.3-0.4 times corresponding body diam.), female tail conical or subcylindrical (22-31 μm, c = 13.2-17.1, c′ = 1.7-2.5) and ending in a tuberculate, often harpoon-like, mucro. Descriptions, measurements and illustrations, including SEM photographs, are also provided for C. persegnis and C. troglophilus from Spain. An identification key to Cephalobus species and a compendium of their measurements are also provided.

A new species of Steinernema was isolated from shrub soils in Liaoning province during a survey for entomopathogenic nematodes in north China. This nematode was obtained by the insect-baiting technique using last instar larvae of Galleria mellonella (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae). This new species is described herein as S. tielingense n. sp. It belongs to the ‘feltiae-kraussei-oregonense’ group and is characterised by infective third-stage juvenile (IJ) with a body length of 915 (824-979) μm, distance from head to excretory pore of 69 (64-73) μm, tail length of 81 (74-85) μm, ratio E=88 (85-94)%, lateral field with eight ridges at mid-body, first generation male spicule 88 (79-98) μm and gubernaculum 61 (49-70) μm long, and first generation female with a vulval protrusion and ratio D=41 (32-49)%. The new species distinctly differs from the related species S. kraussei, S. silvaticum, S. oregonense and S. cholashanense in the different number of ridges in the lateral fields and hyaline tail length as % of total tail length of IJ and male body length and distance from head to excretory pore. Cross hybridisation tests showed that these species were reproductively isolated. The sequences analyses of the internal transcribed spacers (ITS) and D2-D3 regions of the ribosomal DNA confirm this to be a new species.

A species of the genus Isoperla Banks, 1906, I. oncocauda Huo & Du, sp. nov. is described as new to science and is the first record for the family Perlodidae from the Tianmu Mountain Nature Reserve, Zhejiang Province of eastern coastal China. Both sexes of the new species are characterized by tergum 10 with a developed process. The partially extruded aedeagus of the male is membranous without conspicuous larger sclerites and with the ventral surface covered with dense scale-like and nail-shaped spines.

The adult male and larva of a new species in the genus Chimarra Stephens, Chimarra paramonorum n. sp., are described, diagnosed, and illustrated based on the specimens collected in Zhejiang Province, China. The larva and adult male were associated by mtCOI gene sequences. The male can be separated from C. monorum and C. thienemanni mainly by small preanal appendages and by wrinkled, hairless endotheca. The larva of the new species can be separated from other congeners by a combination of characters including the notch on the anterior margin of the frontoclypeus, the teeth of the mandibles, and the length of the seta-bearing process of each forecoxa. The larval description is the first for Chimarra in China.

Two new species of the genus Laena Dejean, 1821 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Lagriinae) are described from Hong Kong: Laena hongkongica sp. n. and Laena walkeri sp. n. These constitute the first record of the genus from Hong Kong, as a species previously described from nearby area Laena ovipennis Schuster, 1926, in fact originated from Zhejiang province nearby Shanghai. Both species from Hong Kong possess a wide variation in body length, which is quite unusual for this genus.

AbstractA new species of Bipaliid land planarian, Bipalium bengalensis is described from Suri, West Bengal, India. The species is jet black in colour without any band or line but with a thin indistinct mid-dorsal groove. Semilunar head margin is pinkish in live condition with numerous eyes on its margin. Body length (BL) ranged from 19.00 to 45.00mm and width varied from 9.59 to 13.16% BL. Position of mouth and gonopore from anterior end ranged from 51.47 to 60.00% BL and 67.40 to 75.00 % BL respectively. Comparisons were made with its Indian as well as Bengal congeners.Salient features, distribution and biometric data of all the 29 species of Indian Bipaliid land planarians are revised thoroughly. Genus controversy in Bipaliid taxonomy is critically discussed and a proposal of only two genera Bipalium and Humbertium is suggested.

The Macrophya zhaoae group is reviewed and five species are recognized in China, including a newly described species, M. lishuii Li, Liu & Wei sp. nov. from Zhejiang Province, and four previously known species, M. hainanensis Wei & Nie, 2002, M. minutitheca Wei & Nie, 2002, M. nigrospuralina Wei, 2005 and M. zhaoae Wei, 1997. A key to all Chinese species and a distribution map of the M. zhaoae group in China are provided.

A new species of the genus Kurixalus (Anura: Rhacophoridae) is described from western Yunnan, China. Genetically the new species, Kurixalusyangi sp. n., is closer to Kurixalusnaso than to other known congeners. Morphologically the new species is distinguished from all other known congeners by a combination of the following characters: smaller ratios of head, snout, limbs, IND, and UEW to body size; male body size larger than 30 mm; curved canthus rostralis; weak nuptial pad; brown dorsal color; absence of large dark spots on surface of upper-middle abdomen; presence of vomerine teeth; gold brown iris; single internal vocal sac; serrated dermal fringes along outer edge of limbs; granular throat and chest; rudimentary web between fingers; and presence of supernumerary tubercles and outer metacarpal tubercle.
