This chapter reviews the internet of things (IoT) as a key component of a smart city and how it is applied to consumers' daily lives and business. The IoT is a part of information and communication technology (ICT) and is considered a powerful means to improve consumers' quality of life. The “thing” could be any object which has internet capability, such as wearable devices and smart TVs/phones/speakers. Several studies have identified driving factors that have led consumers to adopting them, but also concerns of consumers' resistance to IoT devices. The three major fields of application of IoT technologies were selected to review the role of the IoT in consumers' daily lives and business.

Connected and automated vehicle (CAV) technologies and services are rapidly developing and have the potential to revolutionise the transport systems. However, like many innovations, the uptake pathways are uncertain. The focus of this article is on improving understanding of factors that may affect the uptake of highly and fully automated vehicles, with a particular interest in the role of the internet of things (IoT). Using system dynamic modelling, sensitivity testing towards vehicle attributes (e.g., comfort, safety, familiarity) is carried out and scenarios were developed to explore how CAV uptake can vary under different conditions based around the quality of IoT provision. Utility and poor IoT are found to have the biggest influence. Attention is then given to CAV ‘services' that are characterized by the attributes explored earlier in the paper, and it is found that they could contribute to a 20% increase in market share.

In next-generation computing, the role of cloud, internet and smart devices will be capacious. Nowadays we all are familiar with the word smart. This word is used a number of times in our daily life. The Internet of Things (IoT) will produce remarkable different kinds of information from different resources. It can store big data in the cloud. The fog computing acts as an interface between cloud and IoT. The extension of fog in this framework works on physical things under IoT. The IoT devices are called fog nodes, they can have accessed anywhere within the range of the network. The blockchain is a novel approach to record the transactions in a sequence securely. Developing a new blockchains based middleware framework in the architecture of the Internet of Things is one of the critical issues of wireless networking where resolving such an issue would result in constant growth in the use and popularity of IoT. The proposed research creates a framework for providing the middleware framework in the internet of smart devices network for the internet of things using blockchains technology. Our main contribution links a new study that integrates blockchains to the Internet of things and provides communication security to the internet of smart devices.

Purpose Nowadays, the Internet of Things (IoT) offers new intelligent services and business model opportunities by extending the internet connectivity into physical devices and daily objects. Recently, this technology has had a deep impact on all the aspects of human societies from industry to management and business. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to predict the impact of using IoT services on the development of electronic business (e-business). Design/methodology/approach For evaluating the model’s elements, a questionnaire was designed. It was revised by experts with significant experiences. For statistical analysis, SmartPLS 3.2 is used. Findings The findings have confirmed the validity of the proposed model. The results also have indicated that the quality of IoT services (scalability, availability, reliability and ease of use), security of IoT services (trust, reputation, privacy and encryption) and IT knowledge of users (usage skills, awareness, experience and accuracy) have a positive and significant impact on development of e-business. Furthermore, the obtained results have revealed that the operating cost of IoT services (transmission time, storage capacity, functionality and stability) is significantly influenced by the development of e-business. Research limitations/implications By capturing a number of important factors in the proposed model, this study can provide a significant theoretical influence for researchers in the related area of interest. In fact, this study provides a worthwhile direction by assessing e-business performance, which, so far, has not been well assessed in many developing countries. Practical implications From a practical perspective, the statistical results support the crucial role of the following factors: quality of IoT services, the security of IoT services, operating cost of IoT services and IT knowledge of users. Hence, aspects relating to these factors must be the focus of attention of any organization in their endeavor to development of e-business. Originality/value This study meaningfully contributes to the knowledge and literature by focusing more on development e-business and IoT as original technology for further understanding, investigating other important features and applying advanced statistical analyses technique. By doing so, this study was able to develop the current understanding regarding the main aspects of development e-business and IoT services.

The evolvement of IT has open new doors in connecting many devices to the worldwide web that successively produce data around the physical setting using the IoT. However, the system of message turns out to be slightly intricate in human specialization-internet of things communication for the reason that the IoT is a system including diverse objects transferring data This study examines the hypothetical pathway by which the changes in source attribution that is multiple against single and specialization that is multi-functionality against single functionality of IoT devices affect the quality of human- internet of things interaction. The result from the study obtained from 80 participants that took part in the experiment shows that multiple source attribution improves the condition of information basically for the low-involvement people supports further probes the multiple source effects. However, this study recommends improvement of attribution source and human specialization-IoT.

This paper discusses methods for testing data channels under a functional load of traffic generated by devices and applications of the Internet of things. The research of data channels is carried out according to the following quality of service parameters: throughput, network latency, network jitter, packet loss percentage. To measure these parameters, it is proposed to use the following types of testing: stress testing, benchmark testing. A model network including devices and application of the Internet of things was developed to define functional load models. The considered methods can be used to develop sys-tems for testing data channels of the Internet of things.
