Poverty is a severe problem, particularly in third world countries. Since reducing poverty is the first goal of Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, it is the concern of numerous organizations and governments. This chapter is a conceptual paper that discusses the effectiveness of microfinance in eradicating poverty. The main purpose of this chapter is to present the current situation of poverty in Mauritania and the prospect to alleviate it through Islamic microfinance and financial inclusion. It also attempts to propose new suggestions for the Mauritanian government to alleviate poverty and increase people's wellbeing. It has been concluded that Islamic microfinance can reduce poverty in Mauritania. Thus, this research recommends policymakers and managers of Islamic microfinance to enhance the outreach of microfinance institutions to reach a large segment of vulnerable people. This study is among the pioneers in the field of Islamic microfinance in Mauritania, so it fills up this gap in the literature and adds new theoretical discussion to the topic worldwide.

Promoting prosperity and protecting the planet at the same time requires us to end poverty and simultaneously promote economic growth and address social needs. This is also reflected in the form of 17 sustainable development goals agenda set by United Nations. Financial inclusion has been identified as an enabler for 7 out of those 17 sustainable development goals. Financial inclusion requires I\individuals and businesses to have access and ability to do financial transactions, payments, get credit and insurance.

The main objective of this study is to explore the Islamic Microfinance Instruments in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Bangladesh. The methodology of this study is based on secondary data including existing relevant literature, and annual reports of different financial institutions. The findings of this study show that Islamic microfinance institutions have a broader scope to attain SDGs through their various investment modes.The study categorizes the Islamic microfinance instruments into four broadly parts which are profit and loss sharing financing, non-profit & loss sharing financing, Islamic social enterprise based financing and charity based financing which have a positive effect to the real sector of the sustainable economy that will lead towards achieving SDGs. The Islamic Microfinance institutions are continuing their efforts in attaining SDGs through their various products. With growing the potentiality, Islamic microfinance has both direct and indirect impacts on ensuring economic development, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion by creating employment opportunity, spreading knowledge and skills, making self-dependent, protecting from adverse effects. The paper also tries to put recommendations to reduce the challenges of Islamic microfinance acting as impediments to achieving the SDGs.

Abstract The goal of this paper is to explore the Islamic Microfinance Instruments (IMFs) in attaining sustainable development goals (SDGs) in Bangladesh. Propose a conceptual model along with exploring the efforts in attaining SDGs to fill the gap. The methodology of the study predicated on secondary data includes existing relevant literature, books and annual reports of easily sampled IMFs and Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) in Bangladesh. The findings of the research show that microfinance organisations have a broader range to attain Sustainable Development Goals through their various investment modes. The analysis categorises the microfinance tools into large parts that are poverty decrease, end hunger for food, good health, equality education, clean drinking water, sanitation energy, gender equality, empowering women, and funding which have an optimistic effect to the real sector of the sustainable economic climate that will lead towards attaining SDGs. Microfinance organisations are carrying on their initiatives in attaining sustainable development goals through their various products. With growing the potentiality, microfinance has both direct and indirect effects on ensuring financial development, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion by creating work opportunity, distributing knowledge and skills, making self-dependent, protecting from undesirable effects. The paper also attempts to put suggestions to lessen the difficulties of microfinance performing as impediments to achieving the SDGs.
