Information Technology Adoption Dynamics for SMEs in the Manufacturing Sector of Namibia

Small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) account for employment, technological advancements, and competitive advantages in developed and developing countries. SMEs face intense competition from large corporations; therefore, to be competitive and sustainable, there is a need to adopt information technology (IT). However, SMEs have fewer financial resources, lower technical expertise, and lack of management skills. They are likely to be less prepared and may even be unable to deal with information technology adoption dynamics. Therefore, though there is a significant contribution by IT to business, many studies show unsuccessful IT implementations and slow adoption rates by SMEs. This paper uses a qualitative research approach to find out to what extent SMEs in the manufacturing understand IT, whether they have adopted IT and identify IT adoption dynamics in Namibia. Findings reveal that internal factors like top management, resources, end-users and external factors like competitive pressures, IT consultants, and government influence the SMEs in IT adoption.

Despite the advances and the developments of technology, research investigating the impact of Information Technology adoption on the quality of construction projects has been limited. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the impact of Information Technology adoption on the quality of Jordanian construction projects. Measures and analysis procedures were survey based. Ninety questionnaires were distributed among different construction companies to study the impact of (IT) adoption on the quality of the project during the four phases of construction. Descriptive statistics were obtained and regression test was applied. Results indicate that more investment and encouragement of the use of (IT) in the construction sector essentially increase the quality of the project in the construction throughout its four phases (Planning, Design, Construction and Finishing). The main limitation of this study is that it is conducted with a convenience sample. The academic and managerial implications of the findings are discussed and further research directions are offered.

Use of information technology in general is very important for the development of the organization. Likewise, if the development of information technology can be applied to the small and medium business sector, so that it can increase the selling value of the sector. This research was conducted to answer the readiness of the SMEs sector in adopting information technology developments in business management. In this case the researcher develops the research model by adopting the technology readiness model and information technology adoption model in the context of technology and environment, combining and adjusting it according to the development of SMEs in Jakarta. This quantitative study involved 67 samples from MSME workers. Data was processed and analyzed using the PLS-SEM method using SmartPLS 2.0 software. The study also explained the results of the readiness factor which has a significant relationship to the utilization of information technology in SMEs in Jakarta
