Computational Emotional Thinking and Virtual Neurotransmitters

Turing genius anticipated current research in AI field for 65 years and stated that idea of intelligent machines “cannot be wholly ignored, because the idea of 'intelligence' is itself emotional rather than mathematical” (Turing, 1948). The authors' work is dedicated to construction or synthesis of computational emotional thinking. The authors used 3 bases for their work: AI - six thinking levels model described in book “The emotion machine” (Minsky, 2007). Evolutionary psychology model of emotions that is called “Wheel of emotions” (Plutchik, 2001), the authors used as subjective perception model. Neuroscience (neurotransmission) theory of emotions by Lovheim “Cube of emotions” (Lovheim, 2012) was used as objective brain emotional response model. Based on neurotransmitters impact the authors propose to model emotional computing systems. Overall presented work is synthesis of several emotional/affective theories to produce a model of emotions and affective mechanisms that fit model of six thinking levels architecture.

This is the second article dedicated to emotional thinking bases. In the first article, the authors () created overall picture and proposed framework for computational emotional thinking. They used 3 bases for their work: AI - six thinking levels model described in book “The emotion machine” (). Evolutionary psychology model: “Wheel of emotions” (). Neuroscience (neurotransmission) theory of emotions by Lovheim “Cube of emotions” (). Based on neurotransmitters impact the authors proposed to model emotional computing systems. Current work is dedicated to three aspects left not described in first article: appraisal: algorithm and predicates - how inbound stimulus is estimated to trigger proper emotional response, coping: the way human treat with emotional state triggered by stimulus appraisal and further thinking processes, high level emotions impact on system and its computational processes.

Most studies of emotional responses have used unimodal stimuli (e.g., pictures or sounds) or congruent bimodal stimuli (e.g., video clips with sound), but little is known about the emotional response to incongruent bimodal stimuli. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of congruence between auditory and visual bimodal stimuli on heart rate and self-reported measures of emotional dimension, valence and arousal. Subjects listened to pleasant, neutral, and unpleasant sounds, accompanied by videos with and without content congruence, and heart rate was recorded. Dimensions of valence and arousal of each bimodal stimulus were then self-reported. The results showed that heart rate depends of the valence of the sounds but not of the congruence of the bimodal stimuli. The valence and arousal scores changed depending on the congruence of the bimodal stimuli. These results suggest that the congruence of bimodal stimuli affects the subjective perception of emotion.

Abstract Separation is the primary consideration in cloud computing security. A series of security and safety problems would arise if a separation mechanism is not deployed appropriately, thus affecting the confidence of cloud end-users. In this paper, together with characteristics of cloud computing, the separation issue in cloud computing has been analyzed from the perspective of information flow. The process of information flow in cloud computing systems is formalized to propose corresponding separation rules. These rules have been verified in this paper and it is shown that the rules conform to non-interference security, thus ensuring the security and practicability of the proposed rules.

The purpose of this article is to identify atmospherics, i.e. website features that stimulate emotional response, on tour operators’ websites. The discussion about website quality has been biased towards the functional, utility dimensions, although the importance of the emotional aspects has been recognized in previous studies. This article advances the discussion about website quality by proposing a model which links atmospherics to emotional response. An interview guide based on the PAD-structure of Mehrabian and Russell is used in this exploratory study. The taxonomy of atmospherics identified is complex and very much individual. The two most important atmospherics are pictures, and information content and structure. The results also indicate that the mere act of visiting a tour operator’s website, and getting involved in the decision making process, stimulates emotional responses. A new Atmospheric-Response model is presented.
