A kind of novel open architecture CNC system is put forward based on the key hardware ‘‘PC+PMAC controller’’. The intelligent CNC system is divided into four layers, the field bus is used in it for openness and interoperability. The system software including several functional modules is developed based on COM for reuse and reconfiguration. The proposed open CNC system is based on STEP-NC data model, which aim to provide higher-level information for process control. The framework presented can be used as a reference for STEP-compliant CNC.

According to the processing and control requirements of the precision internal grinding, a type of components based embedded precision internal grinding flexible open CNC system was proposed and implemented in this paper. The decoupling design techniques were used for system soft-hardware decoupling package design, which reduced the coupling factors between the system soft-hardware. The system software configuration was given, achieving the open design of the embedded precision internal grinding CNC system.

New scheme of the CNC system software subdivision based on grating signal is discussed; the subdivision error analysis, the hardware circuit and the speed control are discussed. The closed-loop position control system with stepping motor as driving component is implemented.

In this paper, we present a conceptual framework for designing and implementing an intelligent CNC system. The architecture and functional modules are derived from requirement analysis, and they are designed to have a thinking capability before, during, and after the execution of the manufacturing task, so that the assigned task can be effectively executed while dealing with unexpected changes occurring on the shop floor. Also, the data model for supporting the architecture is addressed based on the STEP-NC data model or ISO 14649. The framework presented can be used as a paradigm for new generation intelligent STEP-compliant CNC.

On the market today, the hardware and most software of CNC system are not exclusive and incompatible, and the system institutions vary, which makes the control systems of different manufacture relatively independent, closed to each other. In order to break this situation, this paper conducted a project design on the hardware and software of CNC system which is based on PC platform. On the hardware, ultimately determine the NC embedded PC architecture, design and motion control card based on PCI bus; in the aspect of software design, use Windows2000/XP operating system to achieve multitasking real-time CNC control, and design the software in the Visual C++ environment .Using the platform to achieve the application of the laser welding system, the design is proved to be feasible, it also reflects the basic idea of the open architecture.

In order to improve the level of automation of elevator flexible sheet metal processing production line, flexible sheet metal processing production line based on an open architecture CNC system is proposed. The basic idea of the project is combining CNC bending machine, roller conveyors, robotic welding and other general processing equipment through reasonable project, supplemented by the necessary gauge, mobile unit, feeding positioning equipment, according to the special requirements of sheet metal processing, so that automation of elevator sheet metal production can be achieved, quality of sheet metal processing improved and production costs reduced. In all, the development of the production line can reduce our dependence on labor in the Production and processing of sheet metal.

Regarding to the requirement of machine tool state monitoring in the functional diversity of CNC system, the prototype of an open CNC system based on embedded monitoring unit is studied and constructed. According to the analyzing of the development status of machine tool state monitoring, an embedded monitoring unit model, which connects with the CNC system through the field bus and can be reconfigured when the monitoring target changed, is set up with the ARM + DSP master-slave architecture, through which the state of machine tools can be accessed by the CNC system. In view of the development trend of open CNC system, a four-layer open architecture reference model is proposed, which will meet the demand for structure adjustment and function expansion. In addition, the key supporting technologies in the system design are also researched, so as to provide a feasible solution for the maintenance and multifunction integration of CNC equipment.
