Focusing on the technical objects, the relation of technical objects is analyzed on the basis of the product data concept model and the integrated product model by Schöttner. Taking for coding as a tie, the relations among the parts, the documents, the drafts and the models are explained as well as the revised coding solutions. Taking diesel engine enterprise as an example, the deficiencies are pointed out based on the data model status, and the corresponding improved suggestions are proposed. The relations model of technical objects is applied for the enterprise. The application indicates that the model realizes the reusing of existing resources, improves the efficiency of enterprise personnel. It is the guide of implementation for information in future.

Abstract Recent research at the University of Leeds demonstrated how a product data model can integrate the information required and used during product design and manufacture. The product data framework developed during this research structured assemblies as lists of parts and did not consider information about the relationships between components necessary to support applications such as tolerance analysis and design for assembly. This paper describes how we intend to combine research in assembly representation, functional modeling and data modeling to describe the geometric and functional relationships between components of assemblies. Focus is provided by considering both the design process and the information requirements of a design for assembly analysis.

Abstract In order to make the traditional product structure tree representation amenable to concurrent engineering, relationships like perspective-of and dependent-on have to be added to the essential part-of relationship. Complex data can be held in proprietary formats, while simple data will be in a common representation for direct access by diverse disciplines. Coordination among team members in a project can be carried out using such a model. Besides, a virtually unified view of all the data is possible, though they may lie in distributed and heterogeneous data bases. A very necessary characteristic of such a model is that its time evolution should be easy to represent in order to reflect the dynamic nature of product development, where the model itself, and not merely the data values change. Managing versions is also facilitated by the comprehensive structure of the Unified Product Data Model (UPDM).

Abstract The computer based engineering design process today is characterized by a large variety of (specialized) systems. This and the ongoing globalization and outsourcing of engineering services and competencies causes an increased need for data exchange over the borders of the numerous CAx-systems. Under these circumstances, data exchange has been playing an important role for time and cost sensitive development and manufacturing in every field of industry. This paper presents actual problems and solutions of data exchange over the borders of modern software platforms. It includes the description of possible influences on a product data model and introduces the latest data exchange concepts.

Abstract Capturing design process is becoming an important topic of feature-based modeling, as well as in product data exchange, concurrent design, and cooperative design. Three critical issues on the modeling of design process are considered in this paper, namely, feature concepts, feature evolution, and the semantic consistencies of the states of product models. A semantics-based product model is introduced to facilitate the description of both conceptual and detailed models, and to maintain the semantic consistencies of product states. The process is represented by feature states and their evolution records. Feature type variation and prototype-based design are proposed to support feature evolution. A conceptual description of the design process and an example are given.

This paper analyzed the heterogeneous product information for industrial cluster. It plays an important role in collaboration of enterprise and product information inquires in industrial cluster. The paper presented globe product data model based on PLIB standard. The globe classification structure and properties definition were given as the globe ontology for industrial cluster. The product class was expressed by general model class and function model class. The class is defined with the properties. The class and properties for injection machine were described as an example. According to the globe product data model, the integration framework can make the integration of heterogeneous product information and provide the unique inquire interface for the end customer. The integration framework was presented and analyzed.

Using the automation production mode of modern manufacturing industry for reference, a new industrialized PL-ISEE (product line based integrated software engineering environment) model was proposed by us in reference [8]. The middle part of the PL-ISEE architecture is data layer which is composed of the software components bus and core assets database platform to achieve the storage and managements of product line core assets data. In this paper, the architecture and its implementation mechanism of the PL-ISEE database platform is further researched. Whole platform architecture consists of core asset objects management service and assets database system. The data model and database schema as well as database views of the database platform are designed and created by using united product line concept model and data model. So, the database supporting platform’s functions and configuration also well satisfy the requirements of interfaces, tools and data integration as well as product line assembling production in the PL-ISEE. Therefore, the design and realizing ideas of the PL-ISEE database platform will be valuable to research product line engineering and methodology in future.

Information with imprecision and uncertainty is inherently presented in engineering design and manufacturing. The nature of imprecision and uncertainty is incompleteness. Product data model, being a core of intelligent manufacturing system, consists of all concerned data in the product life cycle. It is possible that crisp data as well as incomplete data are involved in product data model. So EXPRESS, being a powerful tool to develop a product data model, should be extended for this purpose. This paper extends the declaration in EXPRESS to make it possible to model fuzzy engineering information.
