As the traffic flow is increasing gradually in recent years, a great deal of problems appears at the intersection in China. This existing T-junction has a high morning peak queues on the minor road and a poor safety record for all road users. Under this circumstance, Firstly, we will design and evaluate a traffic signal controlled T-junction by using DMRB guidelines. Furthermore, we will design and evaluate a roundabout by DMRB guidelines and ARCADY. Different components of the traffic flow in this T-junction should be considered in both two designs, such as buses, pedestrians, cyclists and cars.

Trucks make up a significant and growing portion of the traffic on freeways. The perceptions of tractor-trailer drivers regarding the quality of service on freeways are the subject of this research, with a focus on the factors that are important to this group of road users. Perceptions were determined using the standard qualitative inductive analysis approach through a focus group with professional tractor-trailer drivers. The results were compared with quality-of-service focus groups held for urban and rural freeway commuters. Freeway conditions in general were the most frequently mentioned factors and encompassed a variety of considerations. The three variables that together describe traffic conditions—travel time (or speed), traffic density (or maneuverability), and traffic flow—were all mentioned with regard to quality of service. Likely the most significant finding is that it is not traffic density that matters to these drivers; rather it is traffic flow. It appears that there is a comfortable operating range of highway speeds in which not much braking and acceleration-related gear changing are required. Other important themes included weather, attitudes toward other drivers, and road rage (i.e., aggressive driving). Participants also responded to questions about regional differences in quality of service. Safety was an issue that transcended or overlapped many other issues.

The increasing volume of traffic in cities has a significant effect on road traffic congestion and the travel time it takes for road users to reach their destinations. Coordinating traffic signals, which is a system of light that cascade in sequence where a platoon of vehicles can travel through a continuous series of green light without stopping, can improve the driver's experience significantly. This report covers the development of a coordinated traffic signal system along Wellington Street West from Church Street to Blue Jays Way Street as part of a City of Toronto signal coordination project. The objective of this study is to improve coordination through modification of signal timing plans while maintaining reasonably minimal impacts to the side street levels of service and delays. The overall goal is to reduced travel times, delays, number of stops and fuel consumption, resulting in public benefit.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> Traffic flow analysis is fundamental for urban planning and management of road traffic infrastructure. Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) systems are conventional methods for vehicle detection and travel times estimation. However, such systems are specifically focused on car plates, providing a limited extent of road users. The advance of open-source deep learning convolutional neural networks (CNN) in combination with freely-available closed-circuit television (CCTV) datasets have offered the opportunities for detection and classification of various road users. The research, presented here, aims to analyse traffic flow patterns through fine-tuning pre-trained CNN models on domain-specific low quality imagery, as captured in various weather conditions and seasons of the year 2018. Such imagery is collected from the North East Combined Authority (NECA) Travel and Transport Data, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. Results show that the fine-tuned MobileNet model with 98.2<span class="thinspace"></span>% precision, 58.5<span class="thinspace"></span>% recall and 73.4<span class="thinspace"></span>% harmonic mean could potentially be used for a real time traffic monitoring application with big data, due to its fast performance. Compared to MobileNet, the fine-tuned Faster region proposal R-CNN model, providing a better harmonic mean (80.4<span class="thinspace"></span>%), recall (68.8<span class="thinspace"></span>%) and more accurate estimations of car units, could be used for traffic analysis applications that demand higher accuracy than speed. This research ultimately exploits machine learning alogrithms for a wider understanding of traffic congestion and disruption under social events and extreme weather conditions.</p>

Abstract Traffic infrastructure localities with temporal restrictions for example due to reconstructions, or modernization, are important aspects influencing the traffic safety and traffic flow. On the basis of our research, we can identify main factors, which generate travel time loses, and which often cause traffic accidents in bottlenecks. First of all, it is improper late merge, speeding, tailgating, lower tolerance and consideration to other road users. Nervousness and ignorance of drivers also play an important role in generation of traffic congestions, lower level of service and resulting external economic loses. One of the tools eliminating the traffic restriction negative impacts is usage of portable telematics systems. In 2011 to 2013,project ViaZONE was in progress, which was to design an intelligent system with the aim to eliminate the mentioned risks and reduce economic losses generated by traffic congestions. Using available data and information, we have proved profitability and cost-effectiveness of dynamic systems for traffic control of work zones. Regarding traffic management, the system showed some problems due to indisciplined drivers and the system proved that speeding in these hazardous road segments is a common practice which caused accidents and congestions.


KS Tubun Street is a street in Bogor, which has a fairly high vehicle volume and become one of a high-traffic jam area. This is caused by KS Tubun Street is the main road for road users from Jakarta and Bogor. Traffic jam problem that occurs due to the confluence interchange of traffic flow and traffic lights settings that are not proportional to the volume of vehicles across the road. Optimization of traffic flow at KS Tubun Street performed by the stages of forming a model of traffic flow, determining the density and velocity of the vehicle is based on the Greenberg model, and determining the length of the traffic lights to avoid a buildup of vehicles. The result is a traffic flow model with distance and time parameters. The density of vehicles that occurs on the streets of KS. Tubun street based on the Greenberg model between 180 to 240 unit car of passanger (ucp) with the average velocity of vehicles 15 to 19.5 km per hour. The density of vehicles on KS. Tubun street can be break down by increasing time. Traffic light cycle time can be reduced for 8 seconds with the red light glowing time is 80 seconds and the green light glowing time is 62 seconds.

As an effective method to alleviate traffic congestion, traffic signal coordination control has been applied in many cities to manage queues and to regulate traffic flow under oversaturated traffic condition. However, the previous methods are usually based on two hypotheses. One is that traffic demand is constant. The other assumes that the velocity of vehicle is immutable when entering the downstream section. In the paper, we develop a novel traffic coordination control method to control the traffic flow along oversaturated two-way arterials without both these hypotheses. The method includes two modules: intersection coordination control and arterial coordination control. The green time plan for all intersections can be obtained by the module of intersection coordination control. The module of arterial coordination control can optimize offset plan for all intersections along oversaturated two-way arterials. The experiment results verify that the proposed method can effectively control the queue length under the oversaturated traffic state. In addition, the delay in this method can be decreased by 5.4% compared with the existing delay minimization method and 13.6% compared with the traffic coordination control method without offset optimization. Finally, the proposed method can balance the delay level of different links along oversaturated arterial, which can directly reflect the efficiency of the proposed method on the traffic coordination control under oversaturated traffic condition.

With the rapid development of the subway, more and more people choose it as the main method of transportation. However, practically, the large number of pedestrians near some large metro stations can also correspondingly affect the traffic of motor vehicles on the roads adjacent to the stations. In this study, coordinated control of the traffic signal which considers the pedestrian crossing delay is studied based on this background. Firstly, the model of progression band in adjacent intersections is analyzed comprehensively, and the calculation formulas of progression bandwidth and the delay of vehicles which are from the progression of traffic flow under different conditions are given. Secondly, five different models of pedestrian delay are analyzed. Under different conditions of motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic flow, the Vissim fitting and proofreading are carried out and the optimal models under different conditions are obtained. Finally, the bilevel programming problem which fuses the above two models is determined; by coding an algorithm, it can be resolved. Furthermore, taking eight signalized intersections from Jiming Temple to Daxinggong along Nanjing Metro Line 3 as the actual background, the calculation and optimization of coordinated control are carried out. It is found that at the expense of the traffic efficiency of large intersections to a certain extent, a wider progression band can be formulated on the roads between them, and pedestrian delays can be reduced in general.
