The paper analyzes a variety of reasons differential fault automobile differential and establishes the corresponding fault tree by using Fault Tree Analysis of reliability theory. The failure spectrum of automobile differential is constructed through qualitative analysis of the fault tree. Meanwhile the study gives the theoretical methods about the solving of top event’s probability and bottom event’s importance for design, fault diagnosis and repair of automobile differential.

As a kind of important mechanical drive forms, the reliability level of gear transmission directly haves an effect on the performance of mechanical products. At present, the analysis method of main gear transmission failure is the fault tree analysis, which has several limits in describing multi-state events. Bayesian network which is very suitable to express multi-state events and uncertain logical relationships has been successfully applied to fault diagnosis field. Therefore, Bayesian network is researched in this paper in order to improve gear transmission fault tree, solve limits of the fault tree out and make the failure analysis results more objective and accurate.

The complexity of modern equipment is higher than before, thus it cannot meet the need of speedy fault diagnosis to use single diagnosis pattern. According to these troubles, a fault tree was introduced to analyze fault information of gear. Fault tree analysis is a logical and diagrammatic method to evaluate the probability of an accident resulting from sequences and combinations of faults and failure events. In conventional fault tree analysis, probabilities and consequences are treated as exact values. In many engineering applications, however, it is difficult to evaluate the probabilities and consequences from past experiences, so a fuzzy set defined in probability is proposed. The principle of fuzzy diagnosis is taken as basics and symptom sets and faults sets are extracted through fault tree analysis. Experiments show this method is effective for fault diagnosis of gear.

The paper analyzes the various factors that cause failure of refrigerator evaporator. The refrigerator evaporator failure spectrum is constructed through qualitative analysis of the fault tree system after building a corresponding fault tree system. There is an analysis procedure of fault tree system based on computer aided fault tree analysis system (CAFTA).
