We chose cast and extrude magnesium alloy AZ61 as materials and studied the influences of temperature, humidity, pressure and NaCl atmosphere on the corrosion products and corrosion mechanism by means of SEM, EDS and XRD. we could indicate the corr osion rate of extruded AZ61 magnesium is faster than that of cast AZ61 magnesium. Both th e rearrange of second ph ase and smaller grain size, which owing to the extrusion process, change the morphologies of corrosion products.

The corrosion tests of Cr, Fe and Ni of Hastelloy C-276 were studied at high temperature and pressure with different aggressive components. The results were investigated by means of graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). The Cr forms stable oxide and NiO is unstable. There is a synergistic effect between salt and oxygen leading to a severe loss of metals. The PO43- can improve the resistance to corrosion for Hastelloy C-276 due to the low-solubility phosphates. The colors of effluences can better support the changed concentrations of metals. The lost metals can reveal the corrosion mechanism of Ni-based alloys.

The corrosion behavior and microstructure of hot extruded Mg-5 wt.%Sn-4 wt.%Al-2 wt.%Ce alloy by rapid solidification ribbon (RS-EX TAE542) are investigated. The results shows that corrosion resistance of RS-EX alloy is remarkably improved, compared with that of hot extruded TAE542 alloy by homogenized ingot (HI-EX TAE542). Relatively compact corrosion products and bedded corrosion surface of RS-EX alloy is connected with the fine grains and uniform particles caused by rapid solidification, and they can suppress the corrosion reactions.

Modeling of welded joints under creep conditions with finite element analysis was undertaken using the theta projection method. The results were compared to modeling based on a simple Norton law. Theta projection data extends the accuracy and predictive capability of finite element modeling of critical structures operating at high temperature and pressure. In some cases analyzed, it was found that the results diverged from those gained using a Norton law creep model. [S0094-9930(00)00601-6]
