Due to high strength, high wear resistance and high corrosion resistance, the amorphous metallic glasses were investigated widely. In the present study, the corrosion resistance of amorphous coating and composite coatings with various proportions of AT13 (Al2O3–13 wt.% TiO2) ceramic as additions in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution were studied. The corrosion resistance was improved obviously as the addition of AT13, and when the content of AT13 was 15 wt.%, the composite coating had the lowest corrosion current density (1.75 × 10−6 A cm−2) and the highest corrosion potential (−411 mV), which was 5.14 × 10−5 A cm−2 and −580 mV for Fe-based metallic glassy coating, respectively. The corrosion mechanism was proposed according to the long-time immersion corrosion test.

The paper presents experimental investigations of the concrete covers’ protective ability to counteract rebar corrosion in reinforced concrete cubes. The concrete sample was subjected to a chloride-induced environment to get corroded and combined with an un-corroded sample. The chloride-accelerated technique can induce a high degree of corrosion within a controlled time. Moreover, detailed and thorough experimental measurements and analyses of reinforcement loss due to corrosion and its influence on concrete microstructure, were studied through 3D X-ray micro-computed tomography. The rebar outside the concrete was heavily corroded due to the chloride-accelerated test, whereas, only local surface corrosion products appeared inside the concrete. It turned out that the concrete cover showed protective ability to counteract the reinforcing-steel corrosion mechanism despite the accelerated corrosion environment. Moreover, the bond strength between the reinforcement rebar and concrete was not visibly affected since the failure force in the pull-out test and failure mechanisms, observed by 3D X-ray micro-CT, were similar for corroded and un-corroded samples. The failure occurred due to radial cracks with a maximum width equal to approximately 0.25 mm.

The parsley extract (PLE) was prepared using absolute ethyl alcohol. The PLE and synergistic iodide were firstly utilized as efficacious corrosion inhibitors to slow down the corrosion rate of carbon steel-Q235 in 0.5 mol/L H2SO4 solution. The anti-corrosion performance was researched by weight loss method, electrochemical tests, surface analysis and quantum chemistry calculation. Results of electrochemical and weight loss tests show that the synergetic PLE and I− exhibit the optimal corrosion inhibition efficiency 99%. The combined inhibitor displays the favorable long-term corrosion inhibition effect, and the inhibition efficiency can maintain more than 90% after 144 h immersion. The introduction of I− makes carbon steel surface with higher negative charge amount, which could be beneficial to the interaction between corrosion inhibitor and Fe atoms. The adsorption behavior obeys the Langmuir isotherm adsorption, and involves chemical and physical adsorption. On the basis of electrochemical consequences and theoretical calculation, the adsorption process and anti-corrosion mechanisms are further explored.

The corrosion behavior of L360 pipeline steel coated with or without elemental sulfur (S8) in CO2–Cl− medium at different pH was studied. An autoclave was used to simulate the working conditions for forming the corrosion scale, and an electrochemical workstation with a three-electrode cell was used to analyze the electrochemical characterization of the corrosion scale. A wire beam electrode was used to determine the potential and current distribution, and scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction were used to characterize the morphology and composition of the corrosion scale. The results showed that the deposition of S8 on the surface of the electrodes caused serious localized corrosion, especially under acidic conditions. The morphology and localized corrosion intensity index further proved that the deposition of S8 significantly promoted corrosion, especially pitting corrosion. Finally, a novel corrosion mechanism of L360 pipeline steel coated with S8 in a CO2-Cl− environment under acidic conditions was proposed, and we then modeled the theoretical mechanisms that explained the experimental results.

Abstract The proton pump inhibitor lansoprazole (PPIL) drug is examined as corrosion inhibitor for high carbon steel (HCS) dipped in 1.0M HCl. The study was conducted utilizing ac impedance spectroscopy (EIS), Mass loss (Ml), polarization tests, and surface checks were utilized to illustrate the importance of this PPIL extract to the prevent corrosion process for HCS. The influence of temperature and concentration of PPIL on the efficiency of inhibition were tested. The corrosion mechanism occurs, when the PPIL extract molecules block the active center in the electrode surface. The inhibition efficiency (%IF) of HCS occurs by the adsorption procedure and HCS is subject to the adsorption of Langmuir. Polarization curves showed that PPIL drug is a mixed- type inhibitor that retards the dissolution of HCS. IF % was deliberated with altering in the concentration of PPIL various temperature of the medium. From the outcome data we get that the good agreement in the all methods.

The effects of Sn and Mo alloying elements on the microstructure and electrochemical properties of TiZrTaNb high entropy alloys were studied by optical microscope (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electrochemistry. TiZrTaNb, TiZrTaNbMo and TiZrTaNbSn alloys with equal atomic ratio were prepared by the arc melting method. The results showed that the microstructure of the high entropy alloys was dendritic structure with single BCC structure. The addition of Mo and Sn elements promoted the growth of the dendritic structure and accelerated the interdendritic segregation of the TiZrTaNb alloy. The TiZrTaNbMo alloy exhibited excellent corrosion properties compared to TiZrTaNb and TiZrTaNbSn alloys based on corrosion parameters Icorr, φcorr, Ipass. The corrosion mechanism is discussed based on the corrosion morphology. The alloying elements have an important effect on the microstructure and electrochemical properties of a high entropy alloy.

The deep sea is the frontier of materials research in the 21st century. Owing to the particularity of pressure (15–120 MPa), hydrothermal temperature (90–400°C), and explosive fluid (strong H2S) in the deep-sea hydrothermal field environment, the research on the corrosion mechanism of service materials in this environment under the coupling action of many harsh factors is almost blank. It has become the bottleneck of equipment and material research and development for China to explore the deep sea. This paper reviews the research progress of corrosion mechanisms of deep-sea environmental materials at home and abroad, and forecasts the research trend and difficulties in this field, especially in the deep-sea hydrothermal field. At the same time, it points out the urgency of the construction of harsh environment materials platform and its relevance to the discipline construction of marine college.
