Li-doped (Na, K)NbO3lead-free piezoelectric ceramics with nominal composition of [Li0.065(Na0.535K0.48)0.95]NbO3were prepared by normal sintering method, and its phase structure, microstructure and electric properties were studied with a special emphasis on the influence of sintering temperature in the range of 950-1020 oC. The result of XRD analysis indicates that a polymorphic phase transition (PPT) separating orthorhombic and tetragonal phases was found at the temperature of 950 oC, whereby enhanced piezoelectric properties of d33=255 pC/N and kp= 44.5% were obtained although the density was low. Our study indicates that the importance of PPT for enhancing electric properties in niobate-based ceramics at low temperature.

High-performance fine-grain (1-x)BiScO3-xPbTiO3 ceramics were prepared by two-step sintering method. Influences of sintering temperature, holding time, and composition on the microstructure and properties were discussed. The BSPT ceramics obtained via two-step sintering reaches density higher than 95% at a low temperature of 800°C without any sintering aid, and the grain size of the ceramics is also effectively controlled. Excellent piezoelectric properties between the composition of x=0.63 and x=0.64 reveals a probable MPB in this range, suggesting a potential approach to pursue high performance BSPT ceramics.

Effect of sintering temperatures on phase formation, mechanical and electrical properties of lead-free Bi0.5(Na0.8K0.2)0.5Ti0.98Zr0.02O3 or BNKTZ piezoelectric ceramics were investigated. The BNKTZ ceramics were prepared via a conventional solid-state sintering technique under various sintering temperature range 1100-1150°C for 2 h. The phase formation and microstructure of the ceramics were examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) method, respectively. XRD analysis indicated that all samples exhibited a single perovskite structure and no secondary phase. SEM microscopy study revealed an increase in grain size with increasing sintering temperature. The maximum values of density and maximum dielectric constant of the ceramics sintered at 1125 °C were 5.79 g/cm3 and 3446, respectively. In addition, the ceramics sintered at 1125 °C showed highest mechanical properties (HV = 4.32 GPa, HK = 5.87 GPa, E = 143 GPa and KIC = 1.30 MPa.m1/2). The highest values of ferroelectric and piezoelectric were found at this sintering temperature.

Lead-free piezoelectric 0.97 K0.5Na0.5NbO3-0.03 AlFeO3(KNN-AF) ceramics were prepared at low temperature of 980 °C to 1020 °C by the conventional ceramic process. The effect of sintering temperature on the crystal structure, density and electrical properties of the ceramics was investigated. The results indicate that KNN-AF ceramics sintered at an low temperature of 1000 °C exhibit high electrical and piezoelectric properties, with piezoelectric constantd33=116ρC/N, and electromechanical coupling factorkp= 32.9%, polarization (Pr) wasPr=21.8 μC/cm2and curie temperatureTC=382°C. This also indicates that KNN-AF ceramics are promising candidate materials for lead-free piezoelectric applications.

Alkali niobate lead-free piezoelectric ceramics with nominal compositions [(Na0.52K0.48)0.94+ xLi0.06-x](Nb0.94Sb0.06)O3 ((NK)xLNS) were prepared by normal sintering. Crystalline phase, piezoelectric properties and sintering behavior of (NK)xLNS ceramics were investigated with a special emphasis on the influence of alkli metal content. The x-ray diffraction patterns and the corresponding calculation of lattice parameters indicated that a phase transition from tetragonal to orthorhombic symmetry occurs as x=0.01, resulting in enhanced piezoelectric constant and planar electromechanical coupling coefficient of 266 pC/N and 38.5%, respectively. With x=0.01, the ceramics sintered at 1050 C show higher density and better electrical properties. Our results indicate the importance of sintering temperature and elaborate compositional control for enhancing piezoelectric properties in niobate-based ceramics.

Structural, ferroelectric, dielectric, and piezoelectric properties of K0.5Na0.5NbO3-LiTaO3-xmol%MnO2 lead-free piezoelectric ceramics with 0.0 ≤ x ≤ 0.3 were studied. The ceramic samples were synthesized through the conventional solid-state reaction method. The MnO2 addition can reduce the sintering temperature of KNLNT ceramics. Compared with undoped KNLNT ceramic, the piezoelectric measurements showed that piezoelectric properties of K0.5Na0.5NbO3-LiTaO3-xMnO2 were improved (d33 = 251 pC/N) when x = 0.1. In addition, KNLNT-xMnO2 ceramics have larger Pr(20.59~21.97 μC/cm2) and smaller Ec(10.77~6.95 kV/cm), which indicates MnO2 has excellent softening property, which improves the ferroelectric properties of KNLNT ceramics This work adds relevant information regarding of potassium sodium niobate K0.5Na0.5NbO3 (KNN) when doped Li, Ta, Mn at the B-site.

0.95(Na0.95-xKxLi0.05)(Nb0.90Sb0.05Ta0.05)O3-0.05KNbO3 lead-free piezoelectric ceramics were prepared by the conventional solid-state sintering method, the effects of K/Na ratio on the structure and electrical properties of the ceramics were studied in detail. The results show that the addition of the pre-calcined KNbO3 powder as sintering aid is very effective to improve the density and sinterability, and the ceramics could be well sintered at reduced temperature of 1060 °C as compared with the relatively higher sintering temperature of Li, Sb, Ta modified KNN ceramics reported in the literature at 1100-1220 °C. The ceramics with x=0.44 possess the optimal properties: d33=231 pC/N, kp= 47 %, Pr= 22 μC/cm2, and Ec= 11.4 kV/cm.
