The paper presented a conventional sequential Structure from Motion method, introduced the algebraic concepts and the core techniques used effectively. It is especially essential to comprehend the static scene based sequential of Structure from Motion is extended to a simultaneous segmentation and reconstruction scheme for dynamic scenes. The first outcome is the multiple view geometry, the second is the feature tracking and geometry initializing, and the last is self-calibration.

The photogrammetric processing of thermal infrared (TIR) images deals with several difficulties. TIR images ordinarily have low-resolution and the contrast of the images is very low. These factors strongly complicate the photogrammetric processing, especially when a modern structure from motion method is used. These factors can be avoided by a certain co-processing method of TIR and RGB images. Two of the solutions of co-processing were suggested by the authors and are presented in this article. Each solution requires a different type of transformation–plane transformation and spatial transformation. Both types of transformations are discussed in this paper. On the experiments that were performed, there are presented requirements, advantages, disadvantages, and results of the transformations. Both methods are evaluated mainly in terms of accuracy. The transformations are presented on suggested methods, but they can be easily applied to different kinds of methods of co-processing of TIR and RGB images.

We tried to verify the concept of Structure from Motion method for measuring the volume of snow cover in a grid of 100×100 m located in Adventdalen, Central Svalbard. As referencing method we utilized 121 depth measurements in one hectare area. Using avalanche probe a snow depth was measured in mentioned 121 nodes of the grid. We detected maximum snow depth of 2.05 m but snowless parts as well. From gathered depths’ data we geostatistically (ordinary kriging) interpolated snow surface model which we used to determine reference volume of snow at research plot (5 569 m3). As a result, we were able to calculate important metrics and analyze topography and spatial distribution of snow cover at the plot. For taking photos for Structure from Motion method, bare pole in hands with a camera mounted was used. We constructed orthomosaic of research plot.
