The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of different firing temperature on thermal conductivity of ceramic tiles. The body formulation powders of ceramic tiles were made according to the formulation given by company and compacted at 18 MPa using pressing machine in order to obtain button shape specimen with 50 mm diameter. The button shape specimen was fired at different firing temperature which 1150°C, 1175°C, 1200°C and 1225°C. Then, the thermal conductivity of fired specimens was measured by using Hot-Disk Thermal Constant Analyzer. Thermal conductivity result shows that the ceramic tile body fired at 1150 °C producing the lowest thermal conductivity values (0.97 W/mK) in comparison with other specimens. This low thermal conductivity performance is due to the high porosity value in the specimen as a result of more trapped air and implies delaying the heat transfer either inward or outward from the ceramic tiles. Therefore, this study proved that by altering firing temperature, different thermal conductivity values of ceramic tiles were obtained.

Acta Geologica Polonica, 63 (2), 271-281. Warszawa. The paper presents results of research on tonstein, which constitutes an interburden in coal seam 405 at the Sośnica- Makoszowy coal mine, Makoszowy field (mining level 600 m), Upper Silesia, southern Poland. The mineral and chemical compositions of the tonstein differ from the typical compositions described earlier for tonsteins from Upper Silesia Coal Basin area. Additionally, minerals present in the tonsteins include kaolinite, quartz, kaolinitised biotite and feldspars. The presence of the phosphatic minerals apatite and goyazite has been recognized. The presence of gorceixite and crandallite is also possible. The contents of CaO (5.66 wt%) and P2O5 (6.2 wt%) are remarkably high. Analysis of selected trace elements demonstrated high contents of Sr (4937 ppm) and Ba (4300 ppm), related to the phosphatic minerals. On the basis of mineral composition the tonstein has been identified as a crystalline tonstein, transitional to a multiplied one.

Abstract The main subject of this paper focuses on scientific and research activities conducted in the Institute of Mining Engineering and Safety of the VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava. Cooperation between the VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava and OKD A.S., the only representative of coal mining in the Ostrava-Karviná coal basin, has recently begun to develop again. This paper describes an example discussed in a certain study, which has been undertaken for the Paskov mine, OKD a.s., dealing specifically with the evolution of microclimate parameters in mines that depend on the progress of mining activity at deeper levels over a period of several years. To this end, a special program, aimed at determination of the necessary refrigerating capacity, was established at the VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava.
