AbstractNew genera Hirtodeceia, Marmarodeceia, Oncodometopus, Pachyopella, Poecilolycia, Trisapromyza, and Xeniconeura are described. The first two are exclusively Neotropical; the others occur also in the Nearctic Region. Relationships with other genera are discussed, and included species are listed. Homoneura (Euhomoneura) pictipennis Hendel is a preoccupied name, and the species is renamed and assigned to Marmarodeceia. Lyciella Collin is discussed, and L. rorida (Fallén) is recorded for the first time in North America.

In the Nearctic region the genus Pseudolycoriella currently includes 13 species. The following seven species are new to science: Psl. basisetosa sp. n., Psl. brevialata sp. n., Psl. chlorothoracica sp. n., Psl. flavipila sp. n., Psl. longisetosa sp. n., Psl. nocturna sp. n. and Psl. subjucunda sp. n. All species are keyed, figured and distribution data is given. Ostroverkhovana Komarova, 2002 is regarded as a junior synonym of Pseudolycoriella Menzel & Mohrig, 1998. Phytosciara (Prosc.) plusiochaeta (Hippa & Vilkamaa, 1991) is reported from North America for the first time.

Seven species of the genus Camptochaeta, two of the genus Claustropyga and one of the genus Dichopygina are newly described from the Nearctic region. These are: Camptochaeta abnormalis sp. n., Cam. camptochaetosa sp. n., Cam. grimaldii sp. n., Cam. multispina sp. n., Cam. praexystica sp. n., Cam. subxystica sp. n., Cam. unispina sp. n., Claustropyga postbrevichaeta sp. n., Cl. subbrevichaeta sp. n. and Dichopygina praeaculeata sp. n. All new species are diagnosed and their distribution data are given. Three species, Camptochaeta duplicata Hippa & Vilkamaa, 1994, Claustropyga abblanda (Freeman, 1983) and Cl. sajanica (Mohrig & Antonova, 1978) are reported for the Nearctic region for the first time. With these new species, Camptochaeta includes 30 species, Claustropyga 15 species and Dichopygina 6 species in the Nearctic region now.

Systematic information on the rarely collected Holarctic platypezid genus Seri Kessel & Kessel is reviewed. Two species are included, S. obscuripennis (Oldenberg) from the Palaearctic Region and S. dymka (Kessel) from the Nearctic Region. The two species are diagnosed and the male of S. dymka is described for the first time. New records of S. dymka, previously recorded only from western North America, indicate that the species has a transcontinental distribution. The phylogenetic position and generic status of Seri is discussed.


<em>Abstract</em>.—The systematics of lampreys was investigated using complete mitochondrial cytochrome <em>b</em> sequences from all genera and nearly all recognized species. The families Geotriidae and Petromyzontidae are monophyletic, but the family Mordaciidae was resolved as two divergent lineages at the base of the tree. Within Petromyzontidae, the nonparasitic <em>Lethenteron</em> sp. S and <em>Okkelbergia aepyptera</em> were recognized as distinct lineages, <em>Lethenteron morii</em> and <em>Lampetra zanandreai</em> were moved to new genera, a sister species relationship was recovered between <em>Caspiomyzon wagneri </em>and <em>Eudontomyzon hellenicus</em>, and a clade was recovered inclusive of <em>Entosphenus hubbsi</em> and western North American <em>Lampetra </em>(<em>L. ayresii </em>and <em>L. richardsoni</em>). The placement of <em>E. hellenicus</em> as the sister species to <em>C. wagneri </em>reduces the number of genera comprised entirely of parasitic species to two, <em>Geotria</em> and <em>Petromyzon</em>. The recognition of distinct lineages for <em>O. aepyptera</em> and <em>Lethenteron</em> sp. S recognizes, for the first time, lineages comprised entirely of nonparasitic species. Apart from the results mentioned above, monophyly was supported for the multispecific genera <em>Entosphenus</em>, <em>Eudontomyzon</em>, <em>Ichthyomyzon</em>, <em>Lampetra</em> (restricted to European species), and <em>Lethenteron</em>. Intergeneric relationships within Petromyzontidae were poorly resolved, but separate clades inclusive of <em>Entosphenus</em> and <em>Tetrapleurodon</em> (subfamily Entospheninae) and one comprised of <em>Eudontomyzon</em>, <em>Lampetra</em>, and <em>Okkelbergia</em> were recovered.

This note deals with three European species of Orthotylinae now known to occur in Canada. Pilophorus confusus was discovered in 1976 in Nova Scotia and is reported for the first time from the Nearctic region. Additional distribution records are given for Orthotylus nassatus and O. viridinervis previously reported from North America by Henry (1977) and Henry and Wheeler (1979), respectively. The three species were likely introduced accidentally into this country some time ago with nursery stock importations but remained undetected until recently. They are predatory and overwinter in the egg stage. The adults of the three species are illustrated.

AbstractThe Microgastrinae wasp Diolcogaster claritibia (Papp, 1959) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), a parasitoid of the diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (Linnaeus, 1758) (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae), is recorded from the Nearctic region (Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario, Canada) for the first time. In spite of some minor morphological and molecular (DNA barcoding) differences, the available data indicate that the European and New World specimens should be considered one species, but more specimens and loci need to be sampled to conclusively determine the phylogeographic history of the species. Diolcogaster claritibia seems to be widely distributed within the Holarctic, and the molecular data suggest that it was recently introduced to North America from Europe.

This study demonstrates the power of DNA barcoding to detect overlooked and newly arrived taxa. Sixty-three species of Coleoptera representing 25 families are studied based on DNA barcode data and morphological analysis of the barcoded specimens. Three of the species involve synonymies or previous taxonomic confusion in North America, while the first Canadian records are published for 60 species. Forty-two species are adventive in North America, and 40 of these adventive species originate from the Palaearctic region. Three genera are recorded from the Nearctic region for the first time: Coelostoma Brullé, 1835 (Hydrophilidae), Scydmoraphes Reitter, 1891 (Staphylinidae), and Lythraria Bedel, 1897 (Chrysomelidae). Two new synonymies are established: Mycetoporus triangulatus Campbell, 1991 (Staphylinidae) is a junior synonym of Mycetoporus reichei Pandellé, 1869, syn. nov. while Bledius philadelphicus Fall, 1919 (Staphylinidae) is a junior synonym of Bledius gallicus (Gravenhorst, 1806), syn. nov. The previously suggested move of Ctenicera tigrina (Fall, 1901) to the genus Pseudanostirus Dolin, 1964 (Elateridae) is formalized, resulting in Pseudanostirus tigrinus (Fall, 1901), comb. nov.

This note deals with four reddish species of European Psallus Fieber known to occur in Canada. Psallus roseus Fabricius was discovered in 1970 in British Columbia, and P. lepidus Fieber and P. jlavellus Stichel were discovered in 1976 in Nova Scotia and are now reported for the first time from the Nearctic region. They were probably introduced accidentally into this country some time ago with nursery stock. The fourth species, P. falleni Reuter, misidentified in North America as P. alnicola Douglas & Scott, is probably naturally Holarctic in distribution. The four species are redescribed, vesicae, left claspers and two adults are illustrated, and a key to separate them is provided.

AbstractTwo new species of metallic-green Coleophora are described from the Nearctic region: C. alabama Landry from coastal Alabama, U.S.A.; and C. mexicana Landry from the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico. Modifications to the key to adults of the Nearctic species of metallic-green Coleophora from Landry and Wright (1993) are provided to account for these new species. Larval host plants and natural history are unknown. Both species are tentatively placed in the ramitella group. Coleophora mayrella (Hübner), originally from the Old World but long established in North America, is recorded for the first time from South America (Chile and Argentina).

The genus Aleurodiscus Rabenh. ex J. Schroet. (sensu lato) is an artificial assemblage of large-spored 'thelephoraceous' hymenomycetes, which can no longer be maintained as a generic unit. The generic limits and the taxonomic position of Aleurodiscus (sensu stricto) (TYPE SPECIES: A. amorphus (Pers. per Purt.: Fr.) J. Schroet.) have been discussed by the writer (1964) in a separate paper. The present work supplements this earlier work, but is concerned primarily with an appraisal of the non-amyloid-spored Aleurodisci, all of which are removed from Aleurodiscus and either assigned to other recognized genera or relegated to new genera.Accordingly, two new genera and 15 new combinations are devised here to accommodate several species formerly placed in Aleurodiscus (sensu lato). The new genera, one of which is monotypical, are Aleurocorticium Lemke, gen. nov. (TYPE SPECIES: A. acerinum (Pers. per Fr.) Lemke, gen. & comb. nov.) and Licrostroma Lemke, gen. nov. (MONOTYPE: L. subgiganteum (Berk.) Lemke, gen. & comb. nov.). The additional 13 combinations proposed are Aleurocorticium album (Viégas) Lemke, comb, nov., A. alliaceum (Quél.) Lemke, comb. nov., A. candidum (Schw.) Lemke, comb. nov. A. dryinum (Pers.) Lemke, comb. nov., A. griseo-canum (Bres.) Lemke, comb. nov., A. lepra (Berk. et Curt.) Seven of the Aleurocorticia are reported from the North American mycobiota for the first time. These seven species, five of which are described as new to science, include Aleurocorticium alliaceum (Quél.) Lemke [= Aleurodiscus alliaceus (Quél) Boidin (1957)], Aleurocorticium dryinum (Pers.)
