Despite the frequent discussion of complications associated with surgical removal of wisdom teeth in the scientific literature, increased mobility of the second molar, which can affect the clinical status of the pulp, is often downplayed or overlooked. This study aimed to evaluate surgical removal of an impacted third molar on the change in the electrosensitivity of the pulp of the mandibular second molar. Sixty patients consecutively presenting to the Department of Oral Surgery to remove an impacted mandibular third molar were included in the study. Clinical examinations of pulp sensitivity of second molars in both the study and control groups were evaluated before the procedure, seven days after the procedure, and eight weeks after the procedure. The surgical removal of an impacted mandibular third molar significantly affected the pulp sensitivity of the second molar.

Distal Cervical Caries (DCC) of the mandibular second molar has become a more frequent complication of third molar impaction as a direct consequence of the introduction of NICE's guidance on the management of wisdom teeth. NICE's tenet that disease free impacted third molars can be retained is contradicted by the development of DCC on the second molar as its diagnosis asks the simple question of why the impacted third molar was not removed before DCC occurred. This paper aims to address the features of DCC associated with the second molar and outlines how dentists should address its diagnosis but, more importantly, how to recognize those at risk and how patients should be managed. Clinical Relevance Crown-root fractures extending well below the alveolar crest, coupled with root perforations of posterior teeth, can be successfully treated with the combination of mineral trioxide aggregate and an adhesive restorative approach in a one-step restoration procedure.

Congenital missing permanent second molar is an extremely rare condition. Non syndromic mandibular second molar agenesis associated with other anomalies has occasionally been reported in literature, but isolated sporadic cases are rarely observed. Number of interactions between genetic and environmental factors during the process of tooth development might be the causative etiology for agenesis. This report presents an isolated case of hypodontia with absence of bilateral mandibular second molar agenesis in a healthy 18 year old female patient is presented and literature review on prevalence of most missing teeth with incidence of missing second molar in various regions of the world and in various regions of Indian continent is presented. No such case has been reported in Indian literature so far.

AbstractRadicular fractures in permanent teeth are uncommon injuries among dental traumas, being only 0.5 - 7% of the cases. Horizontal root fractures can be managed endodontically or combined endodontic and surgical approach. Treatment varies according to the displacement and vitality of the fragments. This paper presents a case report of two cases of horizontal root fracture, present between the middle and apical third of central incisors, which were managed by combined endodontic and surgical approach, while in second case it was followed by PRF placement to facilitate osteoinduction and periodontal tissue regeneration.
