AC Argonaut is a high-yielding navy bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivar developed at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Research Centre, Lethbridge, Alberta, in cooperation with and final selection and testing carried out at the Agri culture and Agri-Food Canada Research Centre, Morden, Manitoba. AC Argonaut is particularly well adapted to Manitoba growing conditions, yielding significantly more than the check cultivar, Envoy. Shetland is a medium-late maturing, high-yielding white (navy) bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivar. It's main advantages are its earlier maturity and better standability than Dresden and OAC Rico. It has good cooking quality and it is resistant to the alpha and delta races of anthracnose and to races 1 and 15 of bean common mosaic virus. AC Alberta Pink is a large-seeded, high-yielding dry bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivar. It was developed at the Lethbridge Research Centre in cooperation with the Morden Research Centre from a cross of ISB473/4/NW63/3/Swan Valley/2/Redkloud/Kentwood. AC Alberta Pink is particularly well adapted to the irrigated western Canadian prairies, exceeding Viva by 13% in yield, 16% in seed weight, and maturing on average 2 d earlier than Viva. AC Skipper is an early-maturing navy bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivar with good canning characteristics. It was developed at the Lethbridge Research Centre from a complex three-way cross of Kentwood, Swan Valley and Redkloud. AC Skipper has a short determinate bush growth habit, matures almost 3 d before OAC Seaforth, and is adapted to all bean growing regions of western Canada. AC Black Diamond is a high-yielding, large-seeded, shiny black dry bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivar. It was developed from a series of crosses at the Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical (CIAT), Cali, Colombia, on contract to the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) Research Centre, Lethbridge, with cooperation from the AAFC Research Station Morden. AC Black Diamond is well adapted to the Canadian prairies, yielding significantly more than the check cultivar, UI 906, at 122% in narrow-rows an d 106% in wide-rows. AC Black Diamond is moderately susceptible to white mold and resistant to bean common mosaic virus (BCMV). Morden003 is an early-maturing navy bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivar, developed at the AAFC Research Centre, Lethbridge, Alberta with final selection and testing carried out at the AAFC Research Station, Morden, Manitoba. Morden003 has higher levels of resistance to anthracnose, caused by Colletotrichum lindemuthianum (Sacc. & Magnus) Lams.-Scrib., than the susceptible check cultivar, Othello pinto bean, and to white mould, caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary, than the navy bean check cultivar, Envoy. Morden003 is particularly well adapted to Manitoba growing conditions, and matures significantly earlier than the check cultivar, Envoy. AC Compass navy bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) was developed at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Greenhouse and Processing Crops Research Centre (GPCRC), Harrow, Ontario. It has high yield potential, erect plant type and medium-early maturity in southwestern Ontario where it is recommended for areas with 2600 or higher CHU.
