Uncomplicated diverticula of the small intestine are asymptomatic, extremely rare in everyday practice and, most often, are detected already with the development of complications such as perforation and abscess formation. Diagnosis of complicated diverticula of the small intestine is difficult due to many other, more common causes of acute abdomen, insufficient use of the capabilities of the methods of radiation diagnosis, the lack of application and correct interpretation of the results of instrumental and special research methods. The article presents a clinical case of perforation of the jejunum diverticulum. The results of effective MDCT diagnosis and successful surgical intervention are presented: laparoscopic resection of the jejunum with the formation of the primary hardware intracorporeal enteroentero-anastomosis side by side.

The lower gastrointestinal tract includes most of the small intestine and all of the large intestine. The patient presenting with an acute abdomen may have a bowel obstruction which could lead to ischaemia and perforation. Thorough assessment and close observation are imperative, because, if surgical intervention is indicated, this needs to be performed promptly. This chapter provides an overview of inflammatory bowel disorders, tumours, hernias, obstructions, the acute abdomen, ischaemic bowel, complications of bowel surgery, and stomas.

Surgical emergencies caused by bowel metastases from carcinoma of the lung are very rare. We describe two cases of symptomatic gastrointestinal metastatic small cell carcinoma: the first one concerns a 69-year-old man with an acute abdomen and the second is a 72-year-old man complaining of a gastric ulcer symptoms. We also discuss the current management and the prognosis of these patients.

Abstract Background: About 50% of patients with initially diagnosed lung cancer have developed distant metastasis. The probability of occurrence of digestive tract metastases found by autopsy is rarely. This report presents a rare clinical case of small intestinal metastasis from primary squamous cell carcinoma of the lung. Case presentation: An 82-year-old male with aggravated cough and more acute shortness of breath than usual was diagnosed with primary squamous cell carcinoma of the lung Stage IV, because of the advanced age, underlying diseases, and poor cardiopulmonary function, the family refused the chemoradiotherapy. One month later, the patient gradually developed right lower quadrant pain. An upright abdominal X-ray suggested small intestinal obstruction and partial resection and anastomosis of the small intestine were performed. Postoperative pathology revealed poorly differentiated squamous-cell carcinoma of the small intestine. The patient died of sudden cardio-respiratory arrest one month later. Conclusions: We conclude that the real incidence of digestive tract metastases from lung cancer may be higher than the reported because of the symptoms of those patients are not obvious. Clinicians should select the appropriate examination methods (such as positron emission tomography) and pay attention to the assessment of abdominal hollow organs.
