This study aimed to improve the students’ critical thinking ability through learning activities using a science e-magazine of socioscientific issues-based inquiry model on additive and addictive material. This study used a one-group pretest-posttest design. This study also investigated the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the science e-magazine of socioscientific issues-based inquiry model on the students’ critical thinking abilities. Data collection techniques used validation, observation, and test. The average students’ critical thinking ability was seen from the overall n-gain score of 0.34 in moderate criteria. The data analysis technique was intended to find out the improvement of critical thinking using paired sample t-test with sig result that was 0.000, so that if H0 is rejected, it means there was an increase in the ability of critical thinking students on VIII A class at Junior High School 1 Pamekasan after the learning activities. Students’ responses and implementation were analyzed using descriptive analysis. E-magazine development was accompanied by the compiling of other learning tools such as syllabus, lesson plan, student worksheet, and critical thinking tests. E-magazine was saved in pdf format, making it easier for students to read them on smartphones or laptops. The average response of students to the learning activities was 80% and to the e-magazine was 80%.

The research was based on concerns about the development of mathematical critical thinking and mathematical communication ability. The purpose of this study was review and compare the differences of enhancing mathematical critical thinking ability between junior high school students who acquire Model of Search, Solve and Share (SSCS) through hypnoteaching method and those who acquire the conventional learning. This study was a quasi-experimental research with non-equivalent control group design consists of classroom experiments which obtain Model of Search, Solve and Share (SSCS) through hypnoteaching method and control class which obtain conventional learning. The population of this study is junior high school students in Tangerang, where the samples are the grade 8th students in one of the state junior high school in Tangerang. Instruments used to collect data in this research consists of mathematical critical thinking test instruments, student’s attitude scale, and observation sheets. The data obtained is analyzed using the mean difference test, which are the t-test, Mann-Whitney, and Rank-Spearman test. The results showed that the enhancement student’s mathematical critical thinking ability who gotten model os Search, Solve, Create, and Share (SSCS) through hypnoteaching method is better than who gotten conventional learning.

The ability to think critically is one of the highest levels of ability. Developing critical thinking skills in students is still considered important to be improved in schools so that students are able and accustomed to facing various problems around it. This study aims to analyze the critical thinking skills of junior high school students who are in excellent classes and regular classes. This research was conducted in Bandung Barat. In this study students are given a test in the form of questions with critical thinking skills, the problem is used to compare between the superior class and ordinary class. Assessment of the problem using several factors of critical ability include 1) students can not understand the problem correctly, 2) students rush in doing the problem, 3) the students cannot choose the problem-solving strategy correctly and 4) the students work on the problem systematically. Then the matter of critical thinking skills of mathematics is analyzed using quasi-experimental research method to analyze students' critical thinking ability that influence learning result. This study shows the differences in critical thinking ability of junior high school students who are in excellent class and ordinary class. This study shows that superior classes are better in mathematical critical thinking ability than a regular class. The results of this study can add knowledge about critical thinking mathematics junior high school students who are in the class and ordinary class and used to facilitate for educational practitioners in the development of critical mathematical thinking skills.

Since Indonesian students’ critical thinking skills in junior high school is still in unexpected level, it should be improved through teaching and learning process. The objective of the study is finding out the influence of problem centered learning approach toward students’ mathematical critical thinking ability. Every student should have mathematical critical thinking skills to make mathematics lessons are easier. Using the critical thinking skills will help students improving problem solving skills. However, the current critical thinking ability of junior high school students is still low. This research used quasi experimental design with Static Group Comparation type. The research sample consisted of two classes with each class of 35 students. The research instrument consists of six questions which indicate a mathematical critical thinking ability. Data analysis of this study used the Mann-Whitney test. The results of the study indicate that there is an effect of the problem-centered learning approach on the students' mathematical critical thinking ability with testing criteria is high.
